Following on from the timeform thread and some of the comments in it, i thought it might be a worthwhile exercise for us to list some free sites which are useful to everyone.
This will be particularly useful for new people but also for anyone who may not know about some of the resources out there.
So many people are paying for things that are available elsewhere free.
I will start with an extremely obvious one
http://www.racingpost.co.uk – best cards available in my opinion plus much motre
November 14, 2007 at 12:22 #124710I’m not sure that the posting of other sites addresses is encouraged on here, ahitchcott.

November 15, 2007 at 10:08 #124852Actually, I’m not sure how Cormack would view this, Colin.
Cormack – any chance of a quick verdict? I think that ahitchcott has specified that these are free resources which would of benefit to anyone interested in horse racing, and, providing the spammers stay away, it might be a useful collection…
November 15, 2007 at 11:15 #124858I’m not sure of the situation, NV, and as ahitchcott seems to have taken umbrage, I’m sorry I didn’t keep my mouth shut.

November 15, 2007 at 11:46 #124861hi colin.
sorry if i gave the impression i had taken your comments the wrong way, this is not the case. i understand completely that you were simply expressing what is probably the correct assumption.
my problem is with forums in general over-moderating so that people can not say anything about certain topics if it involves another website. for example i mentioned a website name in the systems section and promptly had my post removed when all i wanted to do was discuss the best way to utilise free tools and to let others interested in systems know of a cool free resource.
in this instance i felt it would be useful to compile an index of genuine free sites that would help others but also myself. at the moment i pay a couple of different sites for things i am sure i can get elsewhere for free. it was only last month i stopped paying two others when i realised i could use facilities at another site for free.
it seems that just because i dare to mention a site other than this one it is perceived i may be a spammer or have ulterior motives, when in fact all i am trying to do is utilise a forum full of people who are in a position to help each other and for the life of me i cannot comprehend why mentioning a free resource should in any way be considered to be against rules.
but i apologise once again if you felt i had taken your post personally

November 19, 2007 at 17:54 #125725The free site I find most interesting is Marten Julian’s. Obviously, most of the stuff requires various renumerations, however, his journal is free. This well respected journalist never pulls his punches, and that is most refreshing. Sometimes, the old devil will whet your appetite with a potential piece of interesting gossip, but obviously for libel reasons leaves you wanting more. Just a like a Svedish-Nympho-in-Syrup…….the ultimate Treacle Tart.
Regards,
Dave
