Can’t believe this has now become a cricket thread! My fault though I suppose!!

"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"

You’d want to bat today rather than in Bradman’s era.
Having batted in these conditions in the garden for many years, I can testify you’re right………

I wasn’t sure what you were getting at ie amount of wickets 1951 compared to 2011 as your Warwickshire bowler would of taken less wickets these days but I think what you were saying is that Bradman would score a lot more runs in todays game?

I think that’s a certainty. You could say that he played the majority of his matches against England (although I believe he averaged 200 against SA!) but that was the game then.
The point I was making about Hollies was that the incident is always revered as something freakish from an obscure bowler and actually the guy was well-known and very successful.
To get back to the original allegory, I would regard Frankel as a Federer or Woods. But Bradman was almost absurd by comparison: to have a batting average at 40+ runs higher than all other ‘greats’ is off-the-scale.

I attempted to <insert cricket metaphor for clawing a topic back> by throwing McCoy into the pitch but he ended up going wide.

You did and I meant to say you are absolutely right!

Sorry! I did just drag it back at the end there, though. Anyway, bad light stops thread and all that…

August 24, 2012 at 22:42 #410887One of my defining sporting memories as a young boy was the day my history teacher told me about Don Bradman……
The day he told us about Bradman I sat in rapt awe and disbelief as he described his achievements. Now, for me, there have been several sporting greats. Ali, Pele, Federer, Nicklaus – legends that were so far ahead of their peers. But no one compared to Bradman………
For me Frankel IS The Don of racing………
One word of caution. I fear if he goes to France for the Arc it will be like Bradman at the Oval. We don’t want it to end like that do we?
…he was Australian…. aren’t you backing the wrong horse?
otherwise, a lovely post…
