What a total load of bollox. 3 pages on what can be summed up in 2 words COMMON SENSE.
You people aren’t lawyers in real life are you?
…I agree with you.
February 28, 2008 at 15:19 #147145This pretentious fix it all nonsense could easily be done without.
Suggestions:
– re-introduce letters for new members (i’m happy to help)
– remove all graphics (ie – Avatars, and especially pictures in signatures) .. we’re not 16 with a need to remind others constantly of our favourite horses, etc.
– stricter moderation on location of certain topics (ie – a lot more use should be made of ‘Daily plays & lays’) and certain members.Agree with CR – common sense would go a long way.

Not sure what this is about. I started this thread simply to suggest that we treat one another with a little more courtesy. You can call it common sense if you want, which it is, since it makes for a harmonious forum. If treating people’s ideas with a modicum of respect is pretentious than I’m happy to be so labelled.
February 28, 2008 at 19:51 #147206How can you suggest something is pretentious and a "fix it all" then propose an elitist "fix it all"?
Personally I think a lot of people on here got used to the long hiatus where we had no new members. I think I was one of the last to sign up before that happened and It seems to have created a certain elitism amongst members as I don’t remember getting this kind of treatment.. I think I was just generally ignored!!!! Unlike other new members. But then I didn’t become a classic winner until around my third year which is apparently the done thing
February 28, 2008 at 19:57 #147208Leaving a post that simply says ‘dork’ as a reply is plain pathetic.IMO I think it’s things like that that get up some of our noses. That sort of response lacks common sense…and is rude, surely?

Your a funny fellow mate
You discard Andrews suggestion to improve the forum and say we could do without it…. Then you make your own suggestions Talk about Mutt and Jeff
February 28, 2008 at 20:28 #147218In light of my reduced capacity to spend the time I used to on the forum and in view of several problems with rogue members of late I’m reviewing moderation arrangements (i.e. appointing additional moderators) and will be tightening up generally as I would agree that we’ve been gravitating towards a more direct, confrontational and, on occasion, downright rude style which is not how we intend the forum to be.
This forum will be a place where people can post an opinion and recieve either support or criticism for that opinion in a constructive way. Therefore posters who continually belittle or abuse other members will be challenged.
I’m quite happy to retain the use of avatars but I’m introducing a blanket ban on using pictures as signatures.
Yes, GC, I will amend the home page to include reference to the style of debate we encourage on here.
Salselon, agree with your other suggestions but the letters are impractical, costly and don’t gaurantee that nutters won’t join (as I’m sure those who’ve been on the forum for the last six or seven years will attest). I think I’ve been too slow to act on several occasions, giving the benefit of doubt beyond that which was justified.I don’t think the forum is particularly cliquey although there is a familiarity between members which a newcomer might find daunting. All the more reason then for us to welcome newcomers with warmth rather than the sharp rebukes I’ve seen occuring lately.
Finally, Jilly, you are quite the grumpiest female I think I’ve ever encountered. Bizarrely, there remains something appealling about you though.
February 28, 2008 at 20:30 #147220I have to agree with Andrew, because of my user name which is meant as a joke, I tend to get unwarranted remarks by people who have no idea who I am or what my back ground is.
It appears that if you do not agree with a few certain memebres you are fair game.
Everybody has different opinions and views and all should be respected no matter how outrageous they seem.

Easy tiger. Don’t be so judgemental. Avatars are a delightful addition which can technically put a "face to a name". There is more individualism amongst threads knowing the various posters on here can be classified as this and that. I appreciate them in abundance!

And here we are trying to stimulate intellectual debate … I don’t know…
February 29, 2008 at 21:50 #147466If you can’t stand the heat…..
My use of the word dork was, initially, intended to denigrate somebody who had made a statement on the forum that was ludicrous.
If you are new to the forum, or unsure of the level of your knowledge, perhaps a less bombastic approach would be appropriate in the first instance – as opposed to the ‘are we all agreed on’ attitude.

Although we’ve now established the question wasn’t ludicrous and the answer is ‘in almost all circumstances, yes’.
I’m not sure why you feel that you’re entitled to take a bombastic approach to your posting yourself when the content of your posts shows you to be big on insults and short on knowledge

I’m sorry but you really do give the impression of being a proper dork. Your initial posting was nonsense – anyone with a grain of commense can see why – and your comment that I’m short of knowledge is indefensible. If you’re so sensitive, don’t make such aggresive postings in the first place.

You are entitled to your opinion that I’m a ‘Dork’
My initial posting clearly wasn’t nonsense and your assertion that it was is a statement merely of your opinion rather than one of fact
If at any point you display any knowledge I shall be happy to withdraw my comment – I won’t hold my breath
I’m not sure why you believe I’m sensitive – it is you who appears to be reacting in an aggressive manner
