1997 Arc De Triomphe – Peintre Celebre[/url:3eix39j1]
1997 Champion Stakes – Pilsudski[/url:3eix39j1]Singspiel, Pilsudski, Bosra Sham, Peintre Celebre, Helissio & Swain made 1997 a really classy season. Bosra Sham is still the best 1m – 1m 2f filly/mare I’ve seen. The King George was a brilliant contest but IMO had the rain not fallen strongly before the race Singspiel would have won it. Peintre Celebre is the best winner of the Arc I’ve seen ahead of Montjeu & Sakhee. The turn of foot he showed to defeat Pilsudski was just breathtaking. Also, Pat Eddery’s ride on Celeric in the Ascot Gold Cup was brilliant to watch.
January 16, 2008 at 03:24 #135587I haven’t seen a chaser since who could have beaten Desert Orchid when he was at his best around Kempton.
Since? If it was anyone else I would disagree with them, but you have given me so much pleasure watching some great races I will agree with you……..mumbles under his breath………..grr man thinks he’s better than my hero grrr off his flppin head ..I know
maybe he’s never seen Kauto

Brilliant as Kauto Star is, there is no argument currently that Desert Orchid was the best we’ve seen at Kempton in some considerable time. His defeat of Delius in the Racing Post Chase under 12’3 is significantly better that Kauto Star’s win in last year’s King George. It is eminently possible that the latter will improve on that this year, but let’s not hand the crown over too soon!
Hi Rory thoughtI would ask you just to leep this wonderful thread alive:-
Any chance Kauto could have his crown now he would like to wear it and show it off to the crowd on the way to post at Cheltenham
January 16, 2008 at 08:51 #135594FoF,
Desert Orchid probably beat better horses in his King Georges (especially in the first that he won) and he beat them by just as far if not further so I wouldn’t be so sure about giving the crown to Kauto just yet!

I disagree and think Kauto is a different class again and is a much faster horse over the last quarter of a mile or so…..but that is purely me using my own judgment and my eyes…….I realize I could be wrong so I am going to ask my friend to run some tests he does and see what he comes up with and post his findings…just as a matter of interest.
January 16, 2008 at 11:42 #135647The question of whether Kauto Star would have betean Desert Orchid round Kempton’s three mile chase course is irrelevant.
The question can never be answered. We can only guess as to the possible outcome.
I guess It would have been a close run thing – with Dessie emerging victorious after out jumping and out battling Kauto on the run -in.

Reference Point Part 6[/url:b739i0t7]Dancing Brave, Pebbles & Reference Point were all around before I got into racing. Before I saw these clips I new how great Dancing Brave and Pebbles were because their big race victories get shown quite a bit on t.v. Espeically Dancing Brave’s Arc and Pebbles winning the Breeders Cup Turf. All I really knew about Reference Point before I saw these clips was that he was a good Derby winner who got beaten by a horse called Mtoto in the Eclipse. After watching this and seeing how impressive he was in the King George I can see he was a much better horse than I thought.
