The start of another season and continuation of my experiment and belief that trebles are the way to make a profit at football betting.
Opening bank is £500 … trebles generally will be to £50 and normally Football League & Scottish matches as I find the Prem to be unpredictable (ignoring the obvious Chelsea / Man U doubles) … odds will be taken online from the Coral UK site for consistency (I accept they may be bettered elsewhere if you search)
Early season is notoriously difficult to predict until teams settle into a pattern of form … but here goes …
Today’s £50 treble :
Bristol City 10/11 … Reading 8/15 … Charlton 8/13
Potential returns @ £236.43Best value aways :
Huddersfield 13/8 and Northampton 21/10Forest away at Burnley today and not sure what to think … bit of a turbulent summer for the Reds with only one new signing … Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand on loan … and many rumours of internal wrangling with the manager and the "Acquisitions Panel" … given last season’s away form I’m fearing a bad start to the season but I’ll keep the faith and go for a 0-0 draw.
August 7, 2010 at 10:52 #311455Love a treble on a Sat, I try and put two ‘slight’ odds against chances in 11/10, 6/5 with a 4/7 or 8/15.
Gonna have a study up
August 7, 2010 at 10:58 #31145650 quid trebles OMG
Best of luck BHL, but I’ll be sticking with me 2 quid bets
I fancy a few minor upsets today so have gone for a 36/1 treble on Betfair:
Portsmouth WIN – 3.08
Scum – DRAW – 3.82
Bristol City – DRAW – 3.12August 7, 2010 at 11:02 #311457Four draws always used to be a favourite of mine, average minimum of 80/1+
Chance reflected in the price
August 7, 2010 at 17:51 #311539Hypothetical, Pompete … my normal football bets on a Saturday are either the Hills or Ladbrokes seven sections coupon (bookies benefit) or a straight 5, 6 or 7 match accum … never more than a tenner in total and just makes for a bit of entertainment if I’m watching Jeff Stelling and the gang and not in my usual seat at the City Ground on a Saturday afternoon.
Generally reckon on getting 3 or 4 of the sections bets up per season (and an awful lot of near misses) at between £200-£300 per time for a fiver … so have more than made it pay over recent seasons.
Did the hypothetical £50 treble bet for the second half of last season and was several hundred pounds in front by the end … keep promising myself that I’ll put the kitty aside one day and give it a go for real … except I think the bookies in my home town would turn white at the sight of a £50 treble … and I’m sure once I won one or two they’d be pretty quick to limit me to a tenner max !!
August 7, 2010 at 18:27 #311542Today’s £50 treble :
Bristol City 10/11Potential returns @ £236.43
Best value aways :
Huddersfield 13/8Inauspicious start to the season … first day always throws up a home team shocker and I managed to pick two of them … not surprised that Huddersfield easily saw off Notts Co … deja vu for the Reds at Burnley by all accounts … plenty of possession but no quality in the final ball and one defensive error = game lost.
Running Total @ £450 (-£50)
August 7, 2010 at 20:39 #311563Oh dear not a Forest fan….Up The RAMS!!!
How long will Billy stay??
August 7, 2010 at 21:26 #311569Hi Andrew … oh, yes … u Reds … regular since the late 60’s apart from a few years gap in the 80’s when the violence got really bad … hey, hope we can have some banter without turning it into the TRF forum version of ForestMad … thought your mob played really well at Leeds tonight … defence a bit dodgy but could easily have been 4 or 5 without Schmeichel.
In truth, I have mixed feelings over Billy … can’t knock his record and they really did surpass all expectations last season … just have this nagging irritation every time he does an interview that he thinks he’s being really clever … and he isn’t … but if he manages to replicate last season no-one will be complaining.
August 7, 2010 at 21:57 #311585I’ve never lived in Derby so don’t really have the animosity towards Forest a lot of the ‘locals’ have. I’ll whisper this but used to have a soft spot for them when Brian was there…there I said it!
Yes we played well at times today and Commons could be the best player in the division if he ever stays fit!
As for Billy…it’s all about Billy and no-one else..Forest are just a stepping stone like we were and Preston before.
All the best and may the best team win

fairplay, I backed Leeds but Derby were different class, Leeds will be mid-table at best in my opinion.
August 8, 2010 at 07:49 #311649BHL, I hope you don’t think I was being critical. As far as I’m concerned what people bet and how much is none of my business. Nevertheless it would frighten me to death putting 50 quid on the football
No afters here as I didn’t place a bet on them but I really fancied Middlesboro, Southampton, Leeds and Bristol City all getting turned over yesterday solely on the basis that all week on the radio they were being talked out as if defeat was out of the question.
Opportunities for a nice perm on a four-timer don’t come along very often and probably won’t for the rest of the season
August 8, 2010 at 09:21 #311665No, Pompete, I didn’t take offense … £50 on a footie treble would make me sweat a bit as well … although I’m sure I’ll put the kitty aside one day and give it a go … good adrenalin rush I’d imagine but a real downer when you suffer the near misses.
Typical opening day yesterday with a number of shocks and a very unusual series of results in the Championship with not a single draw … I guess the biggest cert of the day was Forest losing away from home
No doubt Whittingham will score a couple for Cardiff today and add another few hundred thousand to his price tag !!!
August 10, 2010 at 11:30 #312010Very tempting round of Carling Cup ties this evening … notoriously difficult to predict as line-ups will change dramatically from Saturday’s teams, particularly for some of the Championship sides who also have a number of players away on international duty.
Quite likely to be a number of shock scorelines tonight so no official bets recommended … predicting where the shocks will come though is the fun part … also a number of sides looking to bounce back from unexpected opening day defeats … 15 home sides tonight look likely to start odds on and I would suggest one or two look vulnerable.
Best bets ? … Coventry 1/1 at Morecambe … Derby 11/10 at Crewe … Preston 1/1 at Stockport
Away value ? … Rotherham 7/2 at Peterborough … Notts County 13/5 at Plymouth
As for Forest ? … put it like this, I’d rather take the 5/2 or 3/1 Bradford than the 5/6 for Forest … five players out on international duty and several injuries suggests Billy’s throwing the kids in tonight (got to get the excuses in early)
August 14, 2010 at 00:09 #312680Doesn’t look any easier than the opening week as many teams try and make up for first day disappointment …
£50 Treble for this week …
Brighton 4/6Plymouth 4/5
Sheff Weds 6/4
Potential returns @ £375
Other fancies … Bournemouth 21/10 .. Hull 9/5 .. Notts Co 9/4 .. Wycombe 6/5Balance c/f @ £450 (-£50)
Balance c/f @ £400 (-£100)
August 21, 2010 at 09:10 #313983Today’s £50 treble …
Debating whether to take the 11/5 on offer for Forest away at Reading today … the run has to come to an end sometime, doesn’t it ?August 21, 2010 at 09:48 #313986Just had a £30 acca, Hearts to win at Killie, Tottenham to win at Stoke,
Leeds to beat Millwall and QPR to win at home to Scunthorpe.Nice return £571 (SJ)
