    Anyone going?

Following recent sorties to Rasen, Abbot and God’s Own Cartmel ™, my relentless pursuit of low-grade jumping fun is going to take me to the Sussex figure of eight this weekend. Shamefully, this will be my first ever visit, the previous attempt last year having been waterlogged off (so I went to Catterick instead – I go a long way for my jumps, me).

Would be lovely to say hello to any others of you attending.

    HI,

Sadly I will not be at Fontwell on Sunday, but you are in for a treat – it is a lovely course.

I suppose I am biased as it was the first racecourse I ever attended and where I picked up the bug for this great sport, many more years ago than I care to remember. Having been to every course it is still up there in the top three and is certainly the best small course in the country.

If you do nothing else, watch at least one chase in the centre of the course, near to the intersection, with some short walks you can get close up action of two jumps on every circuit of this quirky course.

    Enjoy your day.

I couldn’t agree more with the previous post. I love it there. The centre of the chase course visit is a must. Even the lower grade chasers seem like they are going like sprinters, it’s great and I would love to hear what you thought good or otherwise! Please let us know.

If you should find the Fontwell catering less than satisfactory, I recommend a short walk along the road [less than a furlong] from the course entrance to the next little lane on the left which is the entrance to Denman’s Garden Centre and Plant Nursery. There is no charge for entering their delightful cafe where you will be tempted by many delights and guaranteed a hearty lunch.
In 2005 it won the Les Routiers Cafe of the Year award [for London and the South East]. Open daily.

Blimey, not short of suggestions now, am I! Many thanks one and all.

Denman‘s Garden Centre right next to a raecourse, eh? Coincidence or not?

i looked at fontwell on sunday as i like the place – tho not as much as plumpton – but the racing at kempton on saturday looks good so it appears to be kempton on saturday

it might be low grade jumping but you’re sure to enjoy yourself there and the catering is acceptable as opposed to plumpton where it is very good, imo
