Will Caravaggio be as effective back at this 5f? Ballydoyle’s “fastest we’ve ever had” (or words to that effect) gets the opportunity at the minimum trip today. But after missing the start at Deauville, a little slow away at Newmarket and reared just before leaving stalls when winning at Ascot – 5f doesn’t look what Caravaggio needs to me! Form is far better than the rest of these and proven on the ground, but at the prices surely needs to be taken on? May get too far behind over this Flying Five.
Cotai Glory ran well to be third in the Nunthorpe, albeit a long way behind Marsha and Lady Aurelia. Stable in good form, but is the going going against him? Hold up type, so if the pace is good for Cotai Glory it’ll be good for Caravaggio too. May be soft will place too much emphasis on stamina. I like Son Of Rest, but same pace comments apply – although this ground is sure to suit him.
Caspian Prince has a going concern too but is very quick out of the gate; so will get a considerable advantage if the short priced favourite is slowly away. Can see why they’ve come for Groane at massive odds, along with Caspian Prince could also get a pace advantage. Needs to improve quite a bit, but that’s not impossible. Sadly, looked in to this race late and missed the 25’s.
Caspian Prince each way @ 7/1.
From stall 11, Caspian also likely to get the (probably) favoured rail.
Value Is EverythingSeptember 10, 2017 at 13:53 #1317164Caspian for me also @ 7s
as much is like caravaggio i agree with the above it is off puttingSeptember 10, 2017 at 13:58 #1317166I’ve backed Tis Marvellous each-way at 14/1. I have a lot of faith in this horse but admit he hasn’t exactly been repaying me in spades.
He’s been performing to a fair level, will find this more to his liking than Sandown and has been given a nice little break since.
Best of luck with the Prince lads.
September 10, 2017 at 14:59 #1317177Caravaggio is a double stakes bet for me. He should be obliterating this field of handicappers.
September 10, 2017 at 15:13 #1317179I got him at 6/4 last night, double stakes, so very happy with that.
It was a strange performance from him again as he never seemed on the bridle and again shaped as though wanting further.

I know, a very strange horse he’s developed into. At half way I thought he’d fade to finish last. I can’t figure out if he picked up or the others weakened. The latter may prove true and I think the ground rather than the trip was the key to victory today. I’d lay off him until Champions Day and hope for plenty of rain. Then off to the breeding sheds.
I don’t mean to be harsh but at the end of the day he only beat a 92 rated filly by a length.
September 10, 2017 at 15:39 #1317186Havent been on here for a while. Couldn’t agree more that it was a strange race and not sure what to make of it.
On the one hand, he did win comfortably (in the end!) but in victory he hasnt really beaten much competition.
Looking at the field and the fact this was on home soil, I couldnt believe he was trading around 13/8 this morning.
I got 6/4 and am hoping my double with Ribchester comes off
