Hi
Here we are 22nd May 2 months plus into the flat season and what have we got half a turf card and 2 and a half AW meetings. What in the hell’s going on What a way to run racing no wonder it’s dying on it’s feet., Arena or whatever they’re called now should be banned from holding AW meetings at Lingfield and Southwell in the grass season.Classic trials and traditional grass races should taken away from Kempton to be performed on proper grass tracks where they might have some sort of meaning. Racing for change is a total jokeMay 22, 2013 at 09:24 #440375Racing for change is a total joke
What’s any of this got to do with Racing For Change ? They never had anything to do with the fixture list. And, incidently, they don’t exist anymore.
May 22, 2013 at 15:28 #440394Well said Kent , its a farce for sure ,RFC or whatever they are called nowadays are in fact solely responsible , by putting on the best meetings concentrated into each Saturday , the rest of the week you are meant to play on the roulette machines or just ignore the crap on offer ….as long as you lose your cash on a saturday all will be well

Dont complain man ….its the way it is ….

May 22, 2013 at 23:30 #440443I happen to enjoy AW racing and don’t really understand why some look down their noses at it. The turf tracks host their own fair share of low grade races as well, so that’s not a valid reason for me.
And why does AW form have "no meaning" exactly? I’ve enjoyed more success betting on the AW than I have on turf so I’d argue the opposite. The form tends to hold up better, if anything. The idea that four perfectly good racecourses should just shut down through the flat season seems daft to me, and is obviously not going to happen.
Days like today are unfortunate where all the flat action was on the AW except for a few races at Lingfield but before that there was something like 10 consecutive days without any AW coverage at all, so poor fixture planning is to blame as normally there would be a mix of AW and turf.
As a punter you always have the option of leaving the AW alone if it doesn’t appeal, but there’s no denying it’s good for our sport and is here to stay. With Great Leighs looking to reopen next season, this can only mean more AW fixtures for me to get my teeth into, which makes me a happy punter.

You seem to be misunderstanding what I’m saying AW has it’s place in winter there’s no question of shutting down in the summer as Lingfield and Southwell both grass tracks I would just like to see them being used in the appropriate summer season instead of pressing on endlessly with the artificial surface where the form is pretty well meaningless on turf.At the end of the day racing still gets it’s income mostly from betting and turnover must be well down in this doldrums period as you’d need to to be a ‘swivel eyed loon’ to be betting on what being served up for the last 2+monthsMay 23, 2013 at 08:10 #440450

Can’t say I agree with that, but if you’ve won more on the AW then fair enough. Too many times have I seen a ‘dead cert’ fav flop on the AW and time after time I look over the terrible 25/1 shot that hasn’t placed in years come romping home with some ridiculous turn of foot to win by miles.
I’ve also bet on a number of questionable AW races too where jockey’s seem to be happy to finish outside the top 3, or where jockey’s appear to pick the worst possible position and when a gap opens up they avoid it like the plague!
May 24, 2013 at 12:03 #440560We’re in the flat racing season and yet there has been racing this week at Huntingdon and Wetherby – more please!

To balance against the percieved poor quality racing on Wednesday it should be noted that there were reasonable quality cards at Goodwood, Haydock and Sandown yesterday. Worth noting also that for all that some look down on all-weather racing, a number of significant stables brought out runners on the artificial surfaces including three Southwell runners for traditional late-starter Sir Mark Prescott.

Slapping down the artificial surface racing with a comment along the lines of ‘Too many times have I seen a dead cert fav flop on the AW’ raises a number of questions:
So dead cert favourites flopping on the turf is OK?
OR
Dead certs favourites always win on the turf? If so, why are the bookies still around?
OR
Horses that haven’t won for years aren’t allowed to win?
OR
25/1 shots aren’t allowed to win?
OR
and so on..If a favourite is priced at 1/2 it will be expected lose approximately 1 in every 3 goes, that’s what odds are about.
Although I don’t have stats to hand I very much suspect returns at all prices on the All-Weather are not dis-similar to those on the turf. That being said, if anyone is willing to produce proof otherwise….

May 24, 2013 at 15:48 #440574Could’ve sworn Ryan Moore got beat on a 1/8 shot the other night at Leicester….
And six meetings today – way too much racing going on. Four meets a day should be the maximum Mon-Friday.
PS and what a stinker of a ride Hughesy has just given Wentworth with a ton of horse under him. It’s only a week ago he got stuck with nowhere to go in a small field on odds-on shot Oriel.
May 24, 2013 at 20:28 #440600Can’t wait for October/November for the jumps to start properly again.
Roll on next MarchMay 25, 2013 at 15:01 #440709No evening flat racing on Saturday nor any flat racing at all on Sunday, then four on Monday.
May 25, 2013 at 20:11 #440755Know there is the French Derby tomorrow but still doesn’t make sense for a bank holiday Sunday to have no flat racing in Britain. Still I’m not complaining as I like the jumps and can’t stand the flat.

Apologies I thought that was the reason there was no flat racing tomorrow, as the top jocks would be in France. Makes the decision even more strange then.
