Big week coming up, and all about Euchen Glen. I’m hoping for a big run in The Ebor, and I just hope he scrapes in.
Justanotherbottle will kick things off in The Symphony Handicap, and he must have a squeak, while Agincourt has an engagement at Sandown in the Atalanta.
I went off Ebury after his last run, but he’ll hopefully run a good race in The Clipper Logistics, not that I’m planning to bet him.
September 4, 2020 at 12:22 #1499799If I might be allowed VtC.
Think the Henry Candy trained filly BIMBLE is worth keeping an eye on for sprint handicaps. She was a selection yesterday when only edged out close home on handicap debut off a mark of 82,looks progressive and likely to rank higher
good luck to allSeptember 4, 2020 at 23:35 #1499892Of course Kid, happy to see some other shouts.
Just had a look, and can only agree. Hard to fault that, and I’ll be keeping an eye out.
September 5, 2020 at 15:53 #1500017Chuffed to bits with Euchen Glen today, really did me proud yet again.
Great to get the thread back on track, and still can’t believe he was widely available at 18’s
September 6, 2020 at 19:01 #1500188Your faith restored VtC …….well done!
good luck to allSeptember 7, 2020 at 19:01 #1500301Thanks Kid
September 8, 2020 at 00:23 #1500323Omnivega out at Newcastle tonight, and though there’s zero chance of me betting him at the prices, I’m hoping he gets back on track.
September 9, 2020 at 11:34 #1500445Omnivega swerved Newcastle then, and he now runs at Kempton today.
Course form, and I’ll obviously be disappointed if he doesn’t win, but I’ll be leaving him again, as he’s far too short.
September 9, 2020 at 21:35 #1500547Another comfortable win for Omnivega today, though to be fair, he was entitled to win that. I’d love to see them target a big prize before the seasons out.
Really liked Vive La Difference at Doncaster, and I’ll be keeping an eye out for him next time. Really caught the eye.
September 17, 2020 at 23:23 #1501871Vive La Difference out at Ayr tomorrow.
Patiently waited for the market to open, and still missed the 8’s.
Happy enough with 7’s though, and expecting a run for my money.
September 30, 2020 at 14:55 #1504018Been catching up this week since my break and was nicely surprised by Roulston Scar at Nottingham on Sunday following wind surgery during the summer.Although the numbers weren’t eye catching looks to have another win in him before heading back to Meydam if it’s on over the winter.
good luck to allSeptember 30, 2020 at 15:10 #1504021I’ll give him a look kid.
Haven’t bet Protected Guest for ages, but he’s back out today, below his last winning mark. I’ve chanced him at 33’s
October 5, 2020 at 16:46 #1505075My Flat bet tomorrow.
Reasonable contest at Leicester Tuesday.
Count D’orsay & Acclaim The Nation are my win selections – both today Monday are at attractive odds but I have left out Ainsdale at my cost.
OH dear oh dear not a good day !
October 8, 2020 at 01:40 #1505280Decent wee race that Alex. Glad I didn’t have a bet, as I’d have been mad keen on Dave Dexter. Would’ve been a tough one to take.
October 10, 2020 at 12:14 #1505586See one of your old favourites upset the applecart yesterday VtC.
If you did have a ‘little bit’ on Euchen Glen well done!
good luck to allOctober 13, 2020 at 00:15 #1505864Certainly did mate………was a good day.
November 9, 2020 at 21:48 #1510235Time to wrap this up then.
Don’t know where to start really, but safe to say that it’s the most successful Notebook thread I’ve done, and I’ll struggle to top it. This is by a mile the best start to a season I’ve ever had, and several of these guys have contributed.
Before the good though, I’ll cover the bad.
Only one place to start with the bad, and that’s Protected Guest. I’ve listed the unsuccessful ones below, but none of that lot cost me much money, and in some cases, nothing at all. This guy did. Had a decent bet on him at Ascot a couple of times, and he was a complete disaster. There’s clearly something affecting him, he’s hating it, but by god they’re persisting with him, and last seen chucking the towel in over hurdles.
If I’m being honest, Chief of Police and Blackheath should never have been in there, more a case of selections for the sake of having a thread, but regardless, very average selections, who achieved little. Not too worried about them, as they shouldn’t have been included.
Harrovian, Ebury, Its’afreebee, and Verboten were also poor selections. Verboten was so bad when last seen, that there was surely something amiss. Not completely given up on him next year though.
I also expected plenty from Vive La Difference, but he completely failed to deliver. Watch him win tomorrow now.
Things got a lot better with the rest of them.
Ayr Harbour provably fell into the same category as Blackheath and Chief of Police, and shouldn’t have been included, but he at least got his head in front last month. 9’s, 10’s for most of the day, before late money seen him go off at 4’s, it was good to see him win well.
Now the good, and only one place to start.
Euchen Glen – Horse of the year for me, by some distance. To come back from injury, and make a good fist of it against Stradivarius is one thing, but he also made the frame in The John Smiths Cup, and The Ebor, before winning an Old Borough Cup, a Cumberland Lodge, and a St Simon Stakes. That victory at York in The Cumberland Lodge will live long in the memory. What a horse.
Chiefofchiefs – What a day that was in The Silver Wokingham. Freely available at 50’s, he so it well, before repaying EW Backers at big odds in The Wentworth at Doncaster, and The International at Ascot. Very very happy that he repaid the faith.
Dalton Highway – Didn’t quite follow it up, but his win at The Curragh in June, winning at double figures, was a good day.
Agincourt – She’s another who didn’t follow up, but available at 66’s most of the day, she couldn’t have been closer at Royal Ascot, and I was delighted with that.
Overwrite – Another who placed at Royal Ascot, having been freely available at 66’s all day. He followed this up with a win at Windsor, before two decent runs at Goodwood and York for EW players. More than happy with him. I lost interest in him as the season went on though, and he looks a typical Johnston Handicapper, who’ll be hard to read going forward.
Omnivega – He really paid his way, before an absolute disaster of a ride by Hayley Turner cost him at Ascot.
Justanotherbottle – A bit of a disappointment until his crazy run in The Yorkshire Dash, winning at 18’s. Happy Days.
Rock Eagle – He wasn’t out often, but I was delighted with him making the frame in The Cesarewitch, where he was a decent price. He ran a cracker.
Gulliver – Caught the eye in The Wokingham, before going down by the narrowest of margins to fellow notebook horse Romantic Proposal in The Rockingham, and after going off the boil a bit, he routed a strong field at York at big odds. Bit of a pisser that I missed him that day.
Romantic Proposal – She was probably disappointing overall, to the extent that I think they’re not sure how to get the best out of her, but her win in The Rockingham was a proper payday, and that’s all you can hope for with these threads.
Ropey Guest – Third horse on here who made the frame at Royal Ascot, having been 66’s before the off. He got his head in front again later in the season, albeit at long odds on.
A few of them will no doubt get included next season, and one last word to a horse who didn’t get included on here, having never been near a handicap. Really impressed by Stunning Beauty, and hopefully see more of her next season.
