November 27, 2002 at 23:14 #42989Hi Ian, I’ve only just arrived back on the boards and it takes time to play catchup…… on just a quick read through this thread, it seems to me that the staking is all wrong. You must have a staking plan that suits your price range, your strike rate and your winning and losing sequences. You haven’t put down your exact results as 5/4… 6/4… 1/2… L… L…L… etc. so I cant really advise you but on the face of it Matron is correct and the answer in your case could be "rolling" doubles. You will be hard pressed to make a profit from betting short prices without a reasonable staking method in your armoury. I personally would never bet at odds less than 2/1 and you must roll your winnings forward until you achieve this, OK, you’ll miss a few winners and thats painful, but the profit figure at the end could, if your selection method is any good, bring a smile back to your face. If you continue with the staking your doing at the moment, its curtains…… if you can put up Novembers winners and losers in their correct sequence, I’ll see if it’ll work for you………

December 5, 2002 at 14:19 #42991Dear Mr E
Thank you for your observations.
Staking plans are great but it won’t be much assistance to me now, and I’ll explain why, but I will be posting results in sequence starting from November 1st.
I’m not able to be "in running" due to my present job. This all started as a bit of amusement. In July I was given 10 weeks notice of redundancy and put on "gardening leave" – not able to contact any of my customers and keep a low profile at home. I still had my company car and phone, but it soon becomes tedious. I was spending a lot of time on the phone job hunting, so the last thing I wanted to do was spend time on line, looking at racecards and stopping potential employers phoning up. I used to go down to Uncle Bills and have a good read of the Racing Post and soak (choke?) up the atmosphere, and this little system just grew out of that. Both August and September it actually showed me a profit on level stakes, probably more by luck than judgement Plenty of bets!
My current job allows me to have an hours lunch and a good surf, but online betting is out. What I thought I would do over the next few weeks is go back through the year for all the results; I can put them in order and also see if there is any pattern that would allow me to be more selective, which would be a different ball game.
Anyway, I’ll post Novembers results in sequence and report on the years results in the not too distant future.
Regards
Ian C

December 5, 2002 at 18:01 #42992On the contrary Ian, if you have access to a PC at home or you can get a bet on by phone, there is absolutely no reason why you can’t put the bet on before you go to work (or in your lunch break)….. you just put your horses down in order of time and just state the amount of doubles and the stake that you require….. the last horse will ALWAYS be just a straight win bet because thats the start of tomorrows doubles, look at it like this…… A.. B.. C.. D.. E.. F.. G.. H.. I.. J……
here you have 9 doubles and they are AB.. BC.. CD.. DE.. EF.. FG.. GH.. HI.. IJ….. thats 9 doubles. You then just place a WIN bet on the last horse because if that wins you will carry the winnings plus the stake onto the following days "A" and the continue again as above. It really is simple when you get the hang of it….. now let me stick it down in another way with the same 10 bets……. L… L… 4/5… 4/5… 2/1… L… 4/6… L… 4/5… 7/4…… On level stakes you have a total return of 12.81, take away your 10 point stake and your left with a nice profit of 2.81pts and there’s nothing wrong with that. But if you take it a step further and used the "Rolling Doubles", for the same 10pt outlay you could have returned 16.30 points, a profit of 6.30 pts, now thats a much better ROI than levels. Yes, there’s a risk element but in the above scenario we’ve lost a winner (4/6) but we’re still well in front….. you require a good strike rate to pull this off on a regular basis and normally it fits the short prices like a glove…… and you can put the bet on before you go to work so that shouldn’t bother you…… now you just need to pick the winners……

Thanks for your response, I’ll study it at length. I was under the impression that you were creating rolling doubles, not by betting them as doubles, but puttings the winnings of race1 on race 2 etc.
For the month of December here are the results in sequence from Sunday through to Thursday.
Sun L…..5/4
Mon L…..L…..2/1
Tue L…..6/4
Wed 4/5…..3/1…..7/4
Thur 5/6…..L…..L…..L
That’s 7 from 14 at level stakes – Stakes 14 returns 18.03
Will catch up with you later.

December 6, 2002 at 00:24 #42994I’m away for a few days…. we’ll play catchup on Sunday….. best of luck….
Just worked it out before going to bed, the "Rolling Double" would have returned you 27.74 points for the same 14pt outlay…. 13.74 points profit…… nice little earner……. G’night…. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

See exactly where you’re coming from….
I can see exactly how you made it 27.74
Fridays results were L…L…L…
Saturday 11/8…L…L…L…L…L
Monday 4/9….11/2 (lowest number!)
Will calculate the LS later and also the "Merds" – (Mr E’s rolling doubles)
Ian C
December 13, 2002 at 22:30 #42996Catch up time..
Adjustment to last post missed Sundays Irish results which were
8/11…..L
Carrying on….
Tuesday L…..L…..L
Wednesday L…..L
Thursday L…..7/4…..L…..5/4
Friday 2/11…..L…..9/4
I reckon that’s 15 from 39 Stakes 39 returns at LS 39.61
With Mr E’s Rolling Doubles (Merds) then the total would be 39.83
What I’m going to do is to roll it along from last race to first next day. If there’s an Irish race at same time as mainland then the rule will be alphabetical.
Lets see what happens
