Looking like a max field of 6 for this is as Belfast Banter has been sold to race in the US (hours after i put him up to win in the antepost competition). Seems to be happening a fair bit these days.

The good news is it’s looking likely that Epatante will be taken on by Monmiral now that he can’t run at Newbury as he doesn’t qualify for the intermediate race. Sceau Royal is a solid yardstick but was firmly put in his place by Epatante last year and is likely to be again this time around. The others are making up the numbers unless Silver Streak returns to his best.

I’d say evens is a fair enough price for Epatante.

Epatante v Monmiral looks a good one. Looking forward to it. I backed Monmiral for the Arkle end of last season but cashed out when Nicholls said they were sticking to hurdles. I think this horse could have a big future ahead of him over fences whatever happens at the weekend, although if he won it wouldn’t be the biggest shock.

Is Epatante such a sure thing considering the stable she comes from?

    Will she even run?

Id love to see monmiral hack up, he just looked very good last year but its always hard for 4/5yos

Nicholls will likely already have one eye on going chasing next year and by the sounds the Aintree hurdle over 2m4f is his current aim

Epatante is too much of an uncertainty to be an even favourite. I would love to see Monmiral step into in the 2 mile-top-division, but that is very difficult for a 4 year old. Sceau Royal will run his race and at 7/1 that is a fair price.

    Sceau Royal 7/1

DBRDBR, that was almost my selection, but in the end I settled for Not So Sleepy at 12-1

Will the meeting take place given how bad the weather is up here?

Serious snow in Geordieland. Can’t see Epatante running if the meeting is on, she might catch a cold.

Dont like juveniles coming into open grade 1 company, so will be laying monmiral

Epatante running to 154-156 wins this again, but shes a mare and i hate backing mares FTO in the season

Cant not back sceau royal @ 7/1 e/w, similar prep to last season but i feel he could run to 160-162 if all goes right, has never run to it yet over hurdles, but i feel its in there and the price comparison between him and monmiral is borderline comical ill be looking for a match bet to max out in also

I live 5 minutes from the track. Can’t see it going ahead with these winds. Snow has been replaced by rain/sleet at least.

If it does somehow defeat the weather, i’ll probably side with Epatante. Hopefully the MOT over the summer will have sorted her out. If she runs it’s a tip in itself given that Nicky apparently shies away from a fight if he doesn’t think he has a certain winner ;-)

I’m fifty miles north of Newcastle and the rain is coming in through my windows! It’s going to be a long night!

The weather forecast said it is worse on the east coast. Well, I am on the west coast and it is the worst gale I can remember for years, so I shudder to think what it is like on the other side of the country!

Even if Newcastle does go ahead tomorrow, I would not be surprised if there are lots of non runners. Who would want to travel in this weather?

Teresa Mannion having a word with the clerk of the course. I would not fancy driving a high sided horse lorry up a motorway and we’re not even near the worst bit of the country.

Epatante’s preparation has taken in punchestown in April. Went to win this from the Cheltenham festival last year, so is a month on and looks very well treated here.
Doesn’t sound great up there Mo!!
