Sunset in the area was 9.40 and bearing in mind the sun sets in the NW in midsummer my estimate from watching the 8.50 race was that the straight trends WSW. That being the case in midwinter when the sun sets in the SW it should be around 10-11 o’clock to the fences so not causing undue problems for chases scheduled between 3 and 4 pm.

It will be head-on at sunset in March and September and as sunset is around 6pm then racing will be over for the afternoon, save for a lonely Bumper perhaps.

…and that in a nutshell, sweet Drone, is why you’re a better Pantheist than I. 8)

However, the "tipster session" he did with Sir Bob before race one was so lightweight, it was a wonder it didn’t blow away in the prevailing strong winds. Rampant Ronnie was the tip for race two, for no other reason that it would be nice for the prettiest trainer of them all (Alison Thorpe) to have a winner. Tsk.

Bearing in mind he worked a shif here at Ascot in the morning (and he was still here at 1:30) I suspect he had little time to do his homework

So what was he doing in the helicopter on the way there, then? :)

The track looks superb and the facilities are coming together very nicely. The course is in a superb setting, although I saw it on possibly the most miserable day Wales has ever seen!

The track itself is very wide with huge sweeping bends. Driving round the service road you barely feel as if you are going round a bend. The drainage looks to be well planned as well.

I wish them the very best of luck because it definitely deserves to succeed. The layout has been thoughtfully planned to suit all racegoers and connections. I certainly hope to be at their first meeting…

It’s only right to mention that the very next action at Ffos Las is not actually the Rules Flat meeting there next month, but an Arab Racing card a week tomorrow, Saturday June 27th.

I presume that Lekha will have been instrumental in bringing this fixture to fruition, so congratulations to her on that.

    Great stuff, Roddy.
Well done ………………. and well done Quattrocento!

Seconded – nice work! Delighted that Ballyvesey ran kinder this time with the cheekpieces applied, too.

Thanks guys. Only problem I had was mobiles don`t seem to function there,so when I was trying to carry home the loot and the old woman, I couldnt find a cab. Thankfully Peter B came to the rescue and drove us to the hotel.
The interview on the TV was a hoot especially when I reminded him Quattro had broke the track record.

What about the going, watering day and night for a week, torrential rain on Wed and ground good to firm

Forgot to mention the coal mining angle,Jonathan Davies ,the famous rugby star was a guest in the VIP tent. He said he worked there in the opencast mine on which Ffos Las is based,as his first job. 8)

Yes, in an ATR interview with Bob Cooper last night he mentioned that he was a native of the village of Trimsaran …………….. just around the corner from the racecourse.

Looks like another terrific day in store at Ffos Las tomorrow, with the good fields that the two class 2 pots in particular set out to gain having been duly gained.

By my crude maths, 26 of the 98 overnight entries are Irish-trained, a percentage significantly up on the opening night and quite possibly a shape of things to come.

I need hardly add – good luck again with Ballyvesey, Roddy!

Yes, best wishes indeed to Ballyvesey!
That opener is as competitive a Class4 novice hurdle as we will see all season ……… with Walamo, Carsonstown, Victory Parade. :?

A sweet card for sure at Ffos Las today, with all the top jocks in attendance …… Ruby, AP, Geraghty, Dickie J, et al. I’m really looking forward to it.
Great to see such a good fill of declarations …………. funnily enough the nearest (?) racecourse to Ffos Las — Wexford — is also racing today with a maximum complement of 131 declared runners. (And yet some people say there is no demand for all these racemeetings, and that the numbers need to be pruned back. :) )
