i hope it goes better than the last track that opened in the uk. that was a total embarrassment.
May 20, 2009 at 17:31 #229009I dislike the Welsh and i hope this is a big flop for their country.
What a nice pathetic person you sound like. As they have sold 5000 tickets to the public and 1000 corporate for the opening day sounds like they have rubbed your nose in it.
May 20, 2009 at 21:09 #229040I’d love to be there on the day, GC, but an evening meeting is difficult by public transport.
5 miles from Llanelli & 15 minutes drive from Carmarthen and the M4 junction 48.
Please Come Mr Wlison, I’ll take you to the Rhymney valley delta.
June 12, 2009 at 18:40 #233552Entries for the first meeting total 246 and a capacity all ticket crowd of 10,000 is expected – no admission without a ticket.
Obviously just the sort of total flop Mr Wilson was hoping for.
They have added an extra race as well, a NH novice hurdle, which has enabled Dai Walters to set up the possibility of the first ever race being won by his own horse Ffos Las Diamond!
June 12, 2009 at 23:25 #233585Looks a cracking place. Hope they get some good crowds, good races and good horses.
Maybe they should move Haydock’s jumping fixtures there?!!!!

Be a bit tricky for us Haydock members to get their on a Saturday though.
Does look a serious racecourse and this will be a massive boost not just to racing but for Wales aswell, Its in a remote area which mean people will go their for a short racing break and give the local economy a good bit of profit.
June 13, 2009 at 13:42 #233662Looks fantastic and good luck for Thursday. I’m sure this course is going to be a huge success.
How do you pronounce it though!
June 13, 2009 at 13:57 #233667I’m unsure of the correct pronunciation also!
However, a quick Google enlightens me as to the "meaning" of the Ffos Las placename.
Ffos Las translates into the English idiom as "Blue Ditch
". Does this suggest that in a previous century Ffos Las was a known "dogging" site for the West Wales community?
June 13, 2009 at 14:00 #233669yes it will look rather silly continuing to run the grade one betfair chase round that joke of a chase track at haydock now that this wonderful new racecourse is on the scene
June 13, 2009 at 14:14 #233672In Welsh ff = f, single f = v
The ‘a’ in Las is pronounced as in ‘car”.
So phonetically it would be ‘foss lars’ witout any emphasis on the ‘r’ just a long ‘a’.
Does that make sense?

June 13, 2009 at 14:23 #233674Ffos Las can mean either blue or green ditch.

June 13, 2009 at 17:57 #233694due to a bit of a con, I was left 34 tickets short for a trip to ffos las, to date I’ve managed to pick up 10 individually if anyone has or knows anyone with spare tickets can you reply to this or email colinjones47@yahoo.co.uk
Any help would be appreciated
June 13, 2009 at 21:21 #233731Hi all,
Query ……….
What is the public transport infrastructure in the area like?
I.E., is there a dedicated coach service to (and back) to the racecourse from, say, Llanelli railway station? ( The Racecourse website is not clear on this).
Or is car or taxi the only option?June 13, 2009 at 21:45 #233735Hoof, I rang them the other day, there is no bus service from the station to the course. Kidwelly is the nearest station and that is allegedly a mile from the course. I was assured that there would be taxis available at the station.
Colin
June 13, 2009 at 22:04 #233737The bus from Llanelli to Carmarthen No: 197 will drop you off at the entrance to the racecourse………Tel: 0792 582233.
Enjoy the day.June 13, 2009 at 22:17 #233738Cheers Colin, thank you for that.
Thing is, however, I don’t think that Kidwelly is a "stop" on the mainline service.
And my experience of taxi’s to racecourses has been discouraging …….. you encounter no problems getting a taxi TO the course; it is after racing that can prove a bit of grief. If a taxi driver who picks up someone ahead of you sees that there are not many customers left waiting, then, that driver and others won’t bother returning to the course empty to pick you up.I might bring meh car on the ferry after all, and make a week’s holiday out of it.
