ColinJune 17, 2009 at 18:32 #234676Nice card tomorrow. One of my horses runs there – Sandys Ledgend in the 2nd last race. I cant make it, but if anyone who does go, put your views on here please, i would like to attend a raceday there in the near future
June 17, 2009 at 18:43 #234678How poetic is it, for Nicky Henderson to have prepared Ffos Las Diamond specifically for the opening race?
I’d love to hear some thoughts too.
The track is quite conventional from above. Is the course generally flat?

For "poetic", read "sure to be trained to the nanosecond".
Ffos Las Diamond, in case anyone isn’t aware, is owned by Ffos Las mastermind Dai Walters. Hard to believe his charge won’t be ready to run for his life in order to give the boss fella the first ever win on his own course.

As the proverbial pancake. Think Worcester, or Newbury – that sort of flat, galloping, fair left-handed oval.

What share do you have in that then?
June 18, 2009 at 15:45 #234936Pity the ATR coverage is inevitably going to clash with Tipperary so the first ever race from Ffos Las is likely to be shown on a split screen unless they opt to put the Irish meeting behind the red button.

June 18, 2009 at 23:21 #235044A report on Ffos Las as made its way onto the Wales pages of the BBC website at …
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_west/8104725.stm
I note that the video report goes to some length to draw attention to hopefully how the Irish could well positively respond to the existence of Ffos Las.
For those who may be interested “Ffos” is the Welsh language equivalent of the English noun "Ditch / Trench" and I understand relates to the fact that area was previously an open-cast coalmine while “Las” is the colour Blue – so make of that what you will.
June 18, 2009 at 23:38 #235046I’m sure Roddy will be giving the course his seal of approval after Quattrocento’s victory.
Be interesting to read the feedback, certainly looks good on the TV.
June 19, 2009 at 00:00 #235054Only watched a couple of hurdle races both of which appeared to turn in to something of a sprint up the straight – kept waiting for McCoy to show a little initiative on Captain Crackers but he never did. Did the other races appear to favour speed over stamina?
June 19, 2009 at 00:00 #235055Great stuff, Roddy.
Well done ………………. and well done Quattrocento!June 19, 2009 at 00:31 #235059Impressed. A flat and fair galloping track with well made stout fences. Newbury, Wetherby and old Haydock spring to mind, which is compliment enough. And scenically situated in a natural amphitheatre.
Did have the thought that the dread-spectre of fence ommission due to low sun may introduce himself at 8.50 but thankfully none of the fences seemed head on into it.
Well done to all at Ffos Las

The jockeys stated that the going was riding very, very quick, so i would imagine it suited the speedier horses.
June 19, 2009 at 02:14 #235072Looked a lovely fair gallop on TV, you can bet your life there’ll be plenty of Irish visitors both human and equine. A new racecourse with a proper stand and good viewing, imagine!
