Is it just me that thinks this a huge signing for Liverpool? i don’t support Liverpool, but if Benitez can sign another couple of players of Torre’s ilk then they will have a very decent chance in my opinion. Torre’s is still young yet is an integral member of the Spanish National team, is worshipped by the fans at Athletico Madrid, and has height speed and prowess.
I suggest he will be worth every penny of the 27 million Liverpool are splashing out for him. Anyone got any opinions? Am i talking utter nonsense again?
July 2, 2007 at 11:15 #105729There’s no question he’s a great player, and he’ll really make a difference to Liverpool next year. I look forward to seeing him play in the Premiership. But in terms of value, when you consider there is a fee of £20M being banded about for Samuel Eto’o, I know who I’d rather have at their respective prices.
July 2, 2007 at 16:04 #105767Torres has always been a player I’ve liked. Whether he’ll adapt to the Premiership and/or UK life is another matter. Should be helped by the Spanish contingent at Anfield though and could develop into a real hero.
I’d have Eto’o ahead of him though – but only just.
Whoever gets Tevez will have nicked the signing of the year though. Proven Premiership goalscorer, even in a dodgy team. If he goes to Man Utd I predict he’ll match Drogba’s 30 goals next season barring injury.
July 2, 2007 at 16:45 #105772Torres is a class act – let’s hope he thrives in the Premiership. Would rather pay that for him than the £16m Spurs paid for Bent. Can’t quite get my head around that. Berbatov, Keane and Defoe is more attacking talent than half the Premiership will have, so wouldn’t have thought Bent was a priority. Is Defoe going to be happy at White hart Lane?
I’d like to see Defoe at another club and getting regular games. I think he’s potentially a 20 goal a season player if given enough games – even at a mid-table Premiership side.. Surely Bent’s arrival will mean he’ll play even less and for a guy with international pretensions that must be a reason to clear-off somewhere else.July 2, 2007 at 23:17 #105819I would say Fernando Torres will prove to be a better signing than Eto’o because he would seem to be more felxible positionally.
I’d also agree about Tevez, his reputation preceded him prior to moving to West Ham and he seemed to be getting the hang of things in the latter part of the season. I would really like to know what his contract looks like at the moment!
