Perhaps some earlier claims of Ferdy’s demise were a little premature methinks. Ferdy still knows the time of day !
November 9, 2011 at 00:17 #376828He aims his horses for the spring, there is no need to have them ready in October/November.
November 9, 2011 at 09:59 #376867JJM: I agree he aims his ‘best’ horses at a spring campaign but he also knows which horses require what tracks or type of track to perform best.
A good example could come today with

November 9, 2011 at 10:21 #376869I’m keeping a very close eye on one of Ferdy’s because he gave it a great mention in his recent stable tour in the racing post pull out and I thought it ran a belter on the comeback from a long absence, certainly a lot better than a lot of his have been going lately……
Going Wrong
….well worth keeping a close eye on and following this season….
….needless to say I didn’t keep a close enough eye out for this one!!
Was right at the top of my horses to follow list, but a combination of working too hard and tiredness the last few days meant I missed it….typical of my luck of late….I blame the BHA!
I know it was lucky today with the late departing favourite but there was the bounce factor possibility today and think it will be much better next time out and certainly one to follow…

November 10, 2011 at 16:26 #377119Don’t think there’s any lack of fitness showing in Capricornus’ run; I think that’s as good as he is.
November 13, 2011 at 05:06 #377607No denying Ferdy does tend to train them on the racecourse depending on the individual horse but I have no worries with that.
Some trainers push horses and believe lots of hard work at home is the way to go others believe on steady away and let the horse tell them when it’s ready.
The idea of the latter method is designed to extend a horses racing life for as long as possible. The fact he punts some of them when they do come right is irrelevant that’s his right. The type of horse he tend to buy with limited funds may have a lot to do with the way he trains them
He’s certainly a bit of a genius at bringing a horse along slowly sweetening them up and getting one huge run out of them. Perhaps if he pushed them to peak fitness quickly they’d boil over and win nothing, who knows?
tbh no one on here is in a position to criticize his methods. Not without knowing the horses involved as well as he and his staff do.
