Hi all, having posed the same question on the Horse Racing page a couple of days ago i would now like to here your thoughts on this.
I will kick off by throwing these into the ring, firstly a couple of Cricketing moments beginning with the now rightly named Sir Ian Botham Ashes, who would have thought it given the outcome of the first two tests amazing, whilst on the Ashes theme who could forget the battle of a couple of years ago.
Switching codes to my favourite sport that being if you are not already aware Golf.
For pure ampitheatre the last Ryder Cup at the K Club will take some beating in my book, what a great 3 days of which i did not miss very much if indeed anything.
Thinking of the bank balance now and this years Open and that Sunday evening when whilst feeling sorry for Sergio ( honestly) icould not at the same time resist a big YYYYEEEESSSS when Pod triumphed.
Will be back with some more at somepoint.
Cheers for now.
December 7, 2007 at 20:25 #129421It was a dramatic finish to this year’s Open and I’m glad that you made a big profit from it wakeman. I backed Garcia and Stricker who were first and second at the start of day 4 if my memory is correct and I did ok by laying my bets off on both of them but would have won more if one of them had won.
My favorite golf moment though is when Tiger played at the Masters two years ago when he holed a vital shot from off the green and it looked as if the ball had just stopped short of the hole but then dropped in. The BBC tape of it is better as it shows the reaction of the crowd but here is one from Youtube –http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=DaSQ20nH6 … re=related
I also loved it when Maria Sharaprova ( who is my favorite tennis player based purely on her tennis game
) won her first Wimbledon. Other great tennis moments are when Goran Ivanisevic won a brilliant final against Pat Cash, Federer when he first beat Pete Sampras and also Steffi Graf when she won her first Wimbledon. As for Soccer, Liverpool fighting back from 3-0 down to win the Champions League, Arsenal beating Liverpool in a league title decider and Southampton beating Man Utd to win the FA Cup were all special.

December 8, 2007 at 09:34 #129495Oh so many to choose from, especially from horse racing, but for me, I suppose the most memorable has to Celtic’s 1967 European Cup final victory against Inter Milan in Lisbon. The first British club to win that prestigious trophy.

The Coe v Ovett Olympic 800 & 1500 metres showdowns of 1980, Ali v Frazier (1971) Ali v Foreman (1974) Mark Spitz winning seven gold medals at the 1972 Olympics, Brazil v Italy (1970 WC final) …and not forgetting Scotland beating newly crowned World Champs England 3-2 at Wembley. Oh happy, happy days.
