Wow, what a performsnce.
This could be a super star.
Roll on next MarchApril 29, 2014 at 16:00 #477283Striking performance, could have beaten a decent field by even more if Ruby had let him go earlier. But what will he be aimed at?
April 29, 2014 at 16:27 #477286A few weeks ago Mullins stated that both Faugheen and Vautour would start chasing next year. Un des Sceaux would be his Champion Hurdle horse.
I wonder what his feeling is after today’s race.
April 29, 2014 at 16:54 #477288Very impressive. Although poor rides by a number of jockeys, giving Faugheen an easy lead and putting no pressure on Faugheen’s jumping.
Rightfully second favourite for the Champion now. Could well shorten up further once his target is known.
Value Is EverythingApril 29, 2014 at 18:03 #477303So much better to hear the race wasn’t called by boring Des Scahill, I’m so fed up of his awful droning voice isn’t it about time he was pensioned off?

I can understand your thinking but other than Real Steel not sure what other pace options you were thinking of? The Liquidator appears to have gone backwards and didn’t look as if he had either the pace or fluency to mix it with Faugheen. I wouldn’t be rushing to back the winner for a Champion but he was in a different league today.
I don’t think any of the rides were comparable in mediocrity to Russell and Geraghty who did a lovely job of setting the race up for the closers in the novice chase.
April 29, 2014 at 19:47 #477312On his ATR interview Mullins does not give much away however he did seem to think that Vautour would go chasing and he was not sure if Un De Sceaux was Champion class and was intrigued to see what Faugheen would do back at 2 miles.
well he got his answer.
I have not seen a more impressive novice performance since the injury prone Monsignor won at Cheltenham a number of years ago
I think faugheen is the real dealApril 29, 2014 at 21:34 #477325Faugheen and Vautour will win the Arkle and the Champion Hurdle next year.
I just don’t know which one will win which.

So don't run, just like the others always do

You’ve got the two I was meaning dead right Stilvi. Real Steel and The Liquidator. Ah but why wasn’t The Liquidator "fluent"? In my opinion needs to lead or at least have an uninterupted clear view of the front. Didn’t jump that well from the start, with a rail on one side, one horse on the other side and one in front. But imo No coincidence the worst mistakes came when surrounded. Dropped right back before running on again in the straight only once pulled away from the rail, to the outside of the field. Poor ride by Tom, with nothing else wanting to go on should’ve done so himself, or at least disputed it alongside Faugheen (preferably to the outer of the fav).
Reel Steel is an owner companion of one of Faugheen’s major rivals; you’d have thought he’d have gone up there to harry the favourite when normally a front runner anyway. Poor ride; or rather – poor tactics by connections.
Not saying it made the difference between winning and losing; Faugheen would probably have won just as easily anyway. But some of his rivals did not maximise their own chance while maximising Faugheen’s.
Value Is EverythingApril 29, 2014 at 23:47 #477337When you consider Ricci has Faugheen, Vautour, Annie Power and Champagne Fever, where do they all go?
April 29, 2014 at 23:51 #477338When you consider Ricci has Faugheen, Vautour, Annie Power and Champagne Fever, where do they all go?
Faugheen – Champion Hurdle
Vautour – Arkle
Annie Power – Mares Hurdle/Stayers Hurdle
Champagne Fever – RyanairValue Is EverythingApril 30, 2014 at 00:06 #477339When you consider that at Cheltenham, Mullins described Vautour as a class above Faugheen, the other stables must be frightened to say the least.
So much better to hear the race wasn’t called by boring Des Scahill, I’m so fed up of his awful droning voice isn’t it about time he was pensioned off?
A thousand times, yes. Dessie really did dull the edge off even the most intriguing or exciting Irish race.
Champagne Fever – Ryanair
I’ve long been under the impression that Champagne Fever is seen as a Gold Cup horse.
April 30, 2014 at 09:38 #477361Probably is BH, no doubt Champagne Fever will be given a chance at 3 miles next season, but will he stay 3m2f? At the moment I’d say it’s 6/4 against.

Dont know about the odds. Have to say though that being by Stowaway out of Roselier Mare (i think), he must have an outstanding chance of going much further than he is currently.

April 30, 2014 at 11:12 #477377It’s quite extraordinary what Faugheen has done this season.
At one end of the scale, he pulverises a decent field in a Grade 3 at Limerick at Christmas,
over three miles on heavy ground
Then yesterday, he blew away a Grade 1 field by 12 lengths
over two miles on good ground
Hard to think of many horses capable of such versatility.
April 30, 2014 at 11:55 #477381The most telling thing about this eye catching performance was the fact the Faugheen looked even better than he did at Cheltenham. My only concern about whether I would collect or not was a slight uncertainty surrounding Ruby’s overall fitness.
Those who lumped on needn’t have worried – any jockey would have won on this horse. He travels like a dream and even to the most untrained eye, it was obvious that it was only a matter of how far.
If Mullins does send Faugheen jumping, woe betide all other contenders in the 2 mile novice chase division. This fellow looks a monster.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
April 30, 2014 at 14:51 #477387And is it possible that Faugheen could even clash with Sprinter Sacre at some point in the future?
