If he was a decent chaser with a bit of talent, he would be something to look forward to alright!

Great to see Faugheen winning again; even rising twelve and well past his best, he is still electric to watch. If only they’d sent him over fences after his novice hurdle season, multiple Gold Cups….

I think he will run in the GC this season.

I was shocked to see him running away from Samcro like that. I’m not sure he be up to it but I’d love to see him in the Gold Cup.

Can’t see a GC at 12 yrs + a first season novice + history of injury

A Punchestown Gold Cup would be a realistic target for the season.

Faugheen; even at 12 yrs old and well past his prime, he’s still electric. Don’t think he jumped fluently today, but had the engine.

I think the overwatered ground didn’t help at all as he was getting pretty tired in the closing stages.
No idea what his Festival target will be, but he deserves to line up for the Punchestown Gold Gup.

I liked the way he measured his fences especially since he was meeting them on the wrong stride for the most part – it was a side of him that was never really evident when running over hurdles as he tended to clatter through them with little regard when he met them on a wrong stride.

I do think Easy Game is potentially a very good horse and he was also racing on the favoured strip of ground after the last so it was a even more comendable performance – really not sure what his target at Cheltenham should be as the RSA doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense now so that leaves the 2m5f race (can’t remember the name of it) but if they are looking at a swansong final season missing the Festival and maybe taking in the Melling Chase or Betway Bowl enroute to the Punchestown Gold Cup may be the way to go.

    What a horse
I think Cheltenham may be one step too many
considering others will have aimed the horses training programme with that in mind
will be cheering him on regardless..

I think he’s got to go Cheltenham. This could be his last season, he has a good record at the Festival and any other horse with his record this season alone would be going.

Now, a few days later and after re-watching the Flogas another 3-4 times, I have to admit that Faugheen was quite untidy at number of fences. I doubt that he can afford that kind of mistakes over the Cheltenham fences and I also doubt that he’ll be able to pull off the same trick he did when winning his first three chases: racing prominently on the inside in 2nd position and then starting to accelerate when coming to the last couple of fences. It’s not going to happen at a track like Cheltenham which he still might handle pretty well.

The chase course at Prestbury Park is a lot trickier, two open ditches coming up in quick succession at the top of the hill and he might not be able to race in splendid isolation on the inside. The races are run too fast and too crowded in March and they’ll clearly have to change tactics. Given the number of (small) mistakes he made on Sunday and the way he was tiring towards the end, I think he’ll end up in the JLT.

I’d give him a rest and take him to punchestown fresh if he was mine

That looked a pretty hard race for him

If he was to go to the festival I would think the slower pace of the RSA would probably help his jumping and that may be the better option of the two

If he were mine he would be running in the Gold Cup. Why not?

Wouldn’t be opposed to that as I am starting to think you have anything to gain going for the novice races and the RSA can be a real brutal race over the years.

The fact that they have got 3 straight runs (and winning ones to boot) into him without any issues is (considering his recent history) very surprising but I do wonder how many runs he has left without something else happening, so you might want to consider going big or not going at all.

Because he would have absolutely no chance of even hitting the frame in the gold cup

Cant think of any possible reason to run him there

Doesnt jump well enough to be taking on seasoned chasers

He would very likely either be pulled up or fall
