I think the champion hurdle and Arkle threads may go on fire with the same comments so putting it here.
Faugheen I half expected but I’m gutted about Min. Stand to win more due to Altior winning but I really really wanted to see the rematchMin and Faugheen ruled out of Cheltenham races
A MAJOR hole has been blown in trainer Willie Mullins’s Cheltenham Festival team as both Faugheen and Min were on Monday ruled out of next month’s meeting.
While Mullins hopes both will make it to the track again this season, they will not be at Cheltenham next month where they had been set to contest the Stan James Champion Hurdle and Racing Post Arkle respectively.
Faugheen, who missed his scheduled comeback in last month’s Irish Champion Hurdle due to a pre-race setback, has suffered a stress fracture but Mullins is “hoping that he will be okay for Punchestown”.
Min also missed his most recent target, the Irish Arkle, and has a bone bruise, according to Mullins. He could still make meetings later in the spring.
February 6, 2017 at 16:04 #1286143It ha taken some hype away but for the shrewd punter it’s been hugely beneficial.
As you say the faugheen news is not a surprise and I had already laid it a few weeks back But min is a complete surprise got lucky as I’ve done altior
February 6, 2017 at 16:10 #1286144let the mullins re-shuffle commence!!
shame for racing AP and faugheen missing out
February 6, 2017 at 16:16 #1286148This could certainly be described as an annus horribilus for Mullins in relative terms. To lose all the gigginstown horses, vautour, Annie power, min, faugheen, and to still have Arctic fire and killutagh Vic out injured it really is remarkable.
February 6, 2017 at 16:18 #1286149It would be a saintly soul indeed who felt no sense of schadenfreude when remembering a shredded Vautour Gold Cup antepost voucher
February 6, 2017 at 16:19 #1286151This seems to show how much you should listen to Ruby Walsh about the horses in the Mullins yard, as it’s like he’s not completely in the loop. After commenting that faugheen is grand then couple of hours later turns out he injured. He’s not doing it on purpose, but if he was in the know maybe he’d say before he gets interviewed ‘don’t ask me about faugheen’
I’ve bought tickets for champion hurdle day two years running because I wanted to see faugheen in person. If I was Rich Ricci I’d be pissed off. 4 out of 5 star horses won’t be turning up at Cheltenham this season.
February 6, 2017 at 16:20 #1286152I recall last year him saying it was a shame for gary moore when ar mad was out for the season and how lucky to have so many superstars he is, to think you could virtually lose them all for one meeting is incredibly unfortunate.
Wouldnt be surprised if hes being extra cautious with them though, them being at the punchestown festival is arguably more important to HIM at this stage anyway with his current deficit in the trainers title race

The problem with those interviews is that ruby might have seen faugheen working well or in good form last Thursday, did the interview on Friday, didn’t see him all weekend, interview is published on Monday and now he looks a fool
February 6, 2017 at 16:23 #1286154Faugheen having missed the last Cheltenham and not been seen since would have been an insane Ante Post bet without seeing the racecourse at his price
I had penny’s on the World Hurdle as a speculation merry-go-round thinkingCharles Darwin to conquer the World
February 6, 2017 at 16:25 #1286155I am bitterly disappointed; Faugheen had everything, any ground, any trip, speed, acceleration, stamina, could have been the greatest hurdler ever. Perhaps unlikely we’ll see him again.
Usually i am full of anticipation for the festival, but this year it seems underwhelming
February 6, 2017 at 16:33 #1286159Faugheen is not surprising whatsoever but Min is. In fact so many of these mullins horses have come out that I’m starting to wonder if there’s a problem with the yard.
February 6, 2017 at 16:39 #1286161I would assume its horrible luck as opposed to a problem, if it was haymount, invitation only and bachasson we wouldnt be talking about it in the same manner, its just who it is thats making it a talking point…
February 6, 2017 at 16:59 #1286166But the gigginstown horses got taken out as well didn’t they?
I think something is going on that we’re not being told about, this is more than just bad luck.
February 6, 2017 at 17:02 #1286167It’s like playing Russian Roulette this Cheltenham AP carry on.A black eye from Faugheen but a broken rib from Min & Yorkhill could be another.
JP and co. made an inspired move switching BD to the CH.
February 6, 2017 at 17:02 #1286168Can’t believe that this is the first year I can remember when I haven’t been having speculative ante post bets on long shots for races such as the ChH. Just goes to show how brilliant PN was during the Kauto Star years bringing all those horses back year after year; Denman, KS,Nipper and Big Bucks.
February 6, 2017 at 17:06 #1286169Yes that was based purely on training fees nothing else and that the he wont be dictated too
In the context of the mullins yard were only talking about 3 horses here thats it
Killtagh vic etc where all injured 4-6 months ago
People always suspect foul play with mullins and i dont know why, hes in a lose lose position with punters, because as soon as he tries to be honest with something, then an injury happens or three in this matter, people immediately assume he has come cataclysmic event going on in his yard, if this was henderson or nichols (who have as many injuries happen) we would not jump to these conclusions
February 6, 2017 at 17:26 #1286172I’m not sure about that. It was highlighted on another forum by a poster who listed how many of his horses flicker and burn quickly. This was a good while ago but it was quite a list. Brave on a forum where a good number have mullins posters on their bedroom walls
Training methods may not be unconnected. Used to be the same with m pipe of course
