Quote: from gamble on 12:15 am on Feb. 11, 2007[br] Al writes that he wont promise he’ll never have another drink.
That may be an endearment to the drinking classes,
or a belief that he can manage controlled drinking.
Isn’t this the AA "one day at a time" approach i.e just get through today without a drink, never look more than a day ahead?

February 13, 2007 at 18:37 #28355I would suggest that forumites read AD’s column in the Post today. Supposedly it is meant to be a humorous piece but I found it schoolboy sexist s**t
e! If this drivel is the best he can come up with he should be confined to the back of the paper with Millington and that slob who lays on a sofa!February 13, 2007 at 18:58 #28356

February 13, 2007 at 19:39 #28357Bear I agree. The article is appalling.
February 13, 2007 at 22:36 #28358Coincidentally happened to buy the RP today, read AD’s column, shan’t be bothering again.
For some reason, he seems to think the notion that his pretending to be a trainer is inherently hilarious and that the mere mention of a made up East European name is sufficient to have us clutching our sides and spluttering mirthfully.
In short, it was drivel. No, in fact, it was Drivel-lite. It started off down the lane towards Offensive, but couldn’t even be bothered to get there, curled up and died in a puddle of mediocrity.
I suppose it might pass for pithy if the only thing you’d read since leaving school was The Sun.
I’ve read three AD articles in the time I’ve been interested in the sport. The first was his criticism of the 2001 National, which I understand he got slated for in some quarters and which I thought was admirable. A few months ago I read a fascinating account of how he’d drunk too much somewhere in Ireland. Now today’s effort. I would say that sample indicates a marked decline in his literary output.
Though he’s still better than Winstanley. (‘Apples and pears! Knees up Muvva Brown! etc. etc.)
By the way, how much are these people paid for this drivel and how the hell do they get employed in the first place?
