Who are you then? ratpack3? :cheesy:
January 7, 2007 at 09:45 #35258I can confirm that i do not post on Bf as ratpack. If you are the real Richard Hoiles hello then and keep up the good work!
January 7, 2007 at 09:56 #35259Exactly Paul re Dun Doire – so why was he putting punters away telling them something he knew nothing about??
His style is to continually keep tipping the same horse or connections (Shane Donohoe case in point) and, by the law of averages, they will eventually get their head in front. Also there are the duds that he continually keeps tipping such as Kerryhead Windfarm and Kipper and they are the only ones i can think off the top of my head.
The only reason he tipped up Elhamri is because the owner is dumb enough to hire him as his racing manager – note he also tipped it up subsequently when it was chinned illustrating my earlier point.
If u want to follow a shrewd ATR tipster then u should stick to Matt Doyle who would take DD to the cleaners and doesn’t generate any of the stupid hype of his Irish counterpart.
January 7, 2007 at 11:06 #35260Well i think ill put it to the test if i start up a post and follow there tips for a few weeks and see how they do. Bit of an interest.
January 7, 2007 at 17:55 #35261Richard Hoiles,Steve Mellish, James Willoughby,Lydia Hislop are in a class of their own.
A very warm welcome to the forum Richard! Good to see you.
I’m a big admirer of your commentaries, as in the way you never miss what’s going on both at the front end of the race and the rear, and I’m always impressed by your pronunciations. It bugs me no end when commentators get the names of the horses wrong, and to my mind, you get them right (as far as I can tell!) the vast majority of the time.

January 7, 2007 at 23:34 #35263Thanks very much.
There are a couple of good dictionary websites now which give spoken pronunciations which have been a help !
Rest assured I miss plenty. You can always watch races afterwards and think you could have chosen better between bins or monitor more effectively with benefit of hindsight.
Proof positive once again that nothing on Earth does petty prejudice quite as well as a Young Conservative. Way to go, Mesh.
I haven’t been through all of them, but I don’t think many, if any, of these "dream team" lists have reckoned with there being particular suitability of one presenter over another for a particular type of racing.
RUK knows the innate strengths and weaknesses of its staff, and to that end doesn’t book Willo for too many jumps meetings (in which he has comparatively much less interest), or Jonathan Neesom for that many Flat fixtures.
Conversely, over on ATR, one of the most unfortunate episodes of racing TV I watched during 2006 was Zoey Hannon trying to anchor the all-chase meeting at Leicester in which at least four of the contests were hunter chases, a sphere which she gave indication of finding beyond her comprehension (whether that is actually the case or not).
Martin Harris, on commentating duty that day, was made a bit of use of for punditry inbetween calling them home, but only as much as his schedule that day could permit, and a lot of it was spent having to counter Hannon’s poorly-researched questioning.
Surely a lot more would have been gained from having Iain Mackenzie paddockside. Hell, if they were desperate I’m sure me or Adrian or Happy Jack would have done it for two bob and a bag of crisps.

January 7, 2007 at 23:42 #35265Welcome to TRF, Richard – I’m sure plenty on here would think that that’s an unerringly modest assessment of your capabilities.
Good day calling at Plumpton today? Interesting to see Pass Me By finally doing something worthwhile left-handed again after a long period of not doing so, and his win has to rate another feather in the cap of the emerging Suzy Smith, alongside the achievements of Material World.

January 7, 2007 at 23:48 #35266First time back at Plumpton for a while. Always good to work there as where it all started for me, at the tender aged of seven !,and great to see the big prize go to Lewes.
Paul O’Neill showed a lot of courage I thought after Pass Me By literally just threw himself to the ground on the horsewalk.
Suzy Smith can clearly train (her horses always look fit).
Liked the run of Raydan in the first and would be laying both Asateel and Hail The King in future. Dance With Wolves deserves some credit for rallying but thought the other pair looked faint hearted.
Interesting. I hadn’t seen or heard of him doing that beforehand. During Pass Me By’s stint with Guesty I remember the trainer reporting on a few occasions that he was among the most nervous horses he’d ever trained – evidently he’s still not the last word in calm, then. Not that it affected him unduly today!

January 8, 2007 at 05:48 #35268They did say he’d thrown O’Neill and been a real monkey in the preliminaries.
The ground looked desperate yesterday didn’t it?
Richard I did wonder if there was a website where you could get help with pronunciations. I wonder more commentators don’t use it!
Do grammatical/spelling errors in the names of horses frustrate you like they do me? I’m talking of names such as "Your a Gassman".

January 8, 2007 at 10:04 #35270We can now put Pass Me By alongside the likes of Jericho, Carribbean Cove, Sobers etc etc as horses that have improved since leaving Guesty. Or is it just a case that their new handlers don’t p**s
about with them quite so much.January 8, 2007 at 10:50 #35271Happy Jack would have done it for two bob and a bag of crisps
Hurrah! A pay rise!
