Well said Mr. Cunningham, sir.
Colin
August 14, 2009 at 22:22 #243932Fortunately there are still some in the press room left that are prepared to say what they think.

Indeed.
The O’Hara / Baldrick comparison is scarily appropriate.
August 14, 2009 at 22:41 #243934And as for the tired old question of whether I have "ridden in races, or trained a few winners?"
As it happens, I have never trained a racehorse or ridden a racehorse. Then again, I have never been dragged off a racehorse – but I’m pretty sure it would hurt if I was.
LOL
August 14, 2009 at 23:30 #243944Dave Jay:-
It’s a bit of a joke really, the last thing racing needs is another shady character hanging around the side lines, we got enough of them already.
It was the side (white) lines that got him in trouble last time!
I think Fallon will find it tough this time. He’s now well in his 40’s. Racing has moved on. Coolmore now has Murtagh, Stoutey has Moore. Where will his main source of rides come from?
August 14, 2009 at 23:56 #243946Had big doubts about him when riding for the Ramsdens. But have not seen much (if anything) to complain about since coming south.
As a person, I don’t like the bloke.
As a punter, I don’t like the bloke, when he gets up to beat the one I’ve backed; despite not being on the best horse.
As a racing fan, I welcome a master of his profession back. Probably the best jockey I have seen, Lester included.
Value Is EverythingAugust 15, 2009 at 00:09 #243950I pretty much agree with what Ginge says.
At his best he is a good jockey who, like McCoy, can get horses who shouldn’t win, to win.
I just hope he has had the good sense to reflect and learn from his recent experiences and he only makes the headlines for all the right reasons in future.
If he screws up again his career must be over – how many chances should someone be given?

If taking his livelihood away for a couple of seasons for a crime he didn’t commit passes for ‘being given a chance’, then he probably wouldn’t welcome any more.
August 15, 2009 at 00:41 #243955One born every minute….
August 15, 2009 at 00:49 #243958The racing world forgave Lester Piggott his tax evasion, so why not Fallon?
I personally think a crook is a crook – that said, a crook can still be en elite sportsman and still be celebrated as such.

.Has Fallon been evading tax as well?
August 15, 2009 at 01:52 #243966Think a lot of people in the racing industry (particularly journalists) have never forgiven Fallon, Jack and Linda Ramsden for "winning" the Top Cees court case. Which practically finished off the old Sporting Life newspaper. I believe some journalists, both within and outside racing; may have been after Fallon ever since.

Are judicial systems born every minute?

…….and a few bookie’s reps?
August 15, 2009 at 12:08 #244006He’s served his time and if he can stay clean, committed and follow the rules then racing will be better for his return in my opinion.
Based on history though, that’s a significant ‘if’.
August 15, 2009 at 12:17 #244010Whilst I have mixed feelings about his return, I accept he has "done the time". However, I am getting sick of the huge media push – Ch4 have just said he’ll be with them at York next week, for example.
Given all the moves to popularise racing, I don’t think make a big fuss over someone many people less involved with racing associate with corruption/drug taking/whatever sends out the right message. If you know a bit about racing, then you know Fallon’s good points and can make your own judgements.
August 15, 2009 at 12:27 #244014I agree Rose but they’ve done the same with Ronnie Biggs too, they just can’t help glorifying lags I suppose.
August 15, 2009 at 17:44 #244058There’s an interesting other angle to this- will KF be able to continue his Weekender column when he starts back riding, letting the punters know about the ability of the various horses he’s been riding in work and on the racecourse? If so, how does this differ from trainers and their employees being forbidden to give out insider information?
