Whilst never being the greatest fan of Kieren Fallon, I couldn’t help feeling sad for him today.
I know that he has largely, allegedly, been the main reason for his own problems.
That said, on a day when there was a good Newmarket meeting, he was plying his trade at the slightly less salubrious venue (with all due respect) of Beverley.
Four rides at 13/2, 9s, 18s and 33s, and none finishing even placed, or within 6 lengths of the winner.
It appears that he has totally lost the Cumani job now, after losing many of the rides last season, with Atzeni appearing to be the rider of choice now.
It made me wonder whether it is time for him to finally call it a day, as his only chances in big races now would appear to be riding the 3rd strings of Godolphin.

A sad man representing a sad period in racing which has not yet been consigned to history.

    No sympathy.

Only 2 rides again today at Lingfield at 50s and 66s, finishing last and next to last.
Whilst I understand that he has alienated many (and as previously stated, I am by no means his greatest fan), but he was a decent standard champion in his prime. He may not have been as good as Piggott or Eddery, but his current position is in my opinion no way for him to be continuing.
    Each to their own though.
Give it up Kieren, in my view.

I think he will go on a while yet as it is not obvious what alternative career is open to him.

Yes he’s had a slow start to the season, but do not write off Kieren. It seems he is influential behind the scenes with Godolphin and is likely to pick up rides from that source. Indeed he rode a short priced favourite for them to win at Beverley. On the same card was also a tenacious winning ride on Dalaki for Clive Brittain which looked a completely lost cause two furlongs out. It’s a pity he is no longer getting any rides from some trainers who supported him in recent seasons, but he’s still a force to be reckoned with and could yet have a some big wins through the rest of 2014.

On one hand i do agree he is nowhere near the force that he used to be, but on the other, just look at the quality of his rides. He isn’t a top end ‘group’ riding jockey anymore.

The man can’t even steer a horse nowadays.

    He must be distraught.

    Probably, beginner’s luck.

    Was the jockey an amateur?

I considered backing the Fallon horse each way. Somehow just couldn’t press the button. When I finally decided I wouldn’t I absolutely knew he would win. I have this with both Moore and Fallon. I have to say I liked the flash finish. Always nice to see jockeys really trying.

Good luck to him. He won it.

Anyway, a short favourite, loads of gobbing off in the Press, a winner no-one could find except his owners and a line of greatly enriched bookies. It’s what makes racing so very attractive to the wider public.

I’m sure TRF correspondents Moehat, Big G and Stevecaution found the race very attractive

And unbelievably, as far as I’m aware they’re not the owners of Night Of Thunder nor do they have a hotline to the inside information purred by the stable cat
