This thread is all about horses that have caught my eye in defeat, they may have won good races in the past and are currently in the grip of the handicapper or they may well have just not had conditions to suit on the day but in my opinion will, given optimum conditions win again!
November 15, 2010 at 21:58 #328141Attention all!!! Im in a pickle!! Need help!!!
I recently moved to Canada, and Im getting severe withdrawal symptoms from Live Irish and UK racing. Surely theres a way i can get live coverage in Canada, apart from the Internet, is there??? If ANYONE has an idea or suggestion, please feel free!!!! Regards to all
November 15, 2010 at 22:00 #328142Razor Royale
has been beaten on his last 2 starts because he isn"t an out and out stayer,he finished 11th on Saturday to a proper stayer in Midnight chase over a course that suits,i believe a drop back to 21/2m or 3m at the most will see the real Razor show his edge again, off 146 he is certainly still capable on Good or softish ground!

Whats up? You been offering 20/1 about
Tataniano
winning the Champion chase or something and fled the country!

LOL!!! Id still be loathe to backing him for Cheltenham, Im just not a fan of the horse. I see hes around the 8-10/1 mark, again, a ridiculously short-price. Theres not much going on back home in Ireland, so i decided to take a short-term contract working abroad. Missing the racing like crazy though

P.S. If u remember correctly, i also said Tatatiano should be 20/1 just to MAKE IT to the Arkle!!! I was proven right
November 29, 2010 at 10:41 #330381My eyecatcher for last Saturday has to be
Thetotherone
,admittedly he was well handicapped in the Hennessey but having watched the race several times,he was never at the races and yet finished with great effect to get 4th! The race was run at such a pace that this fellow just couldn"t go with them and he was getting the hurry up constantly,so much so that his jumping was put under pressure and he constantly made errors. This horse wants a big step up in trip and to my eye could easily be a national type!

That’s exactly what I thought when I saw this race! Joanne x
December 1, 2010 at 14:13 #330692Joanne,i"m using this thread to remind me of horses that have won decent races,or at least have ran well in them! My eyecatchers are what i believe are quality horses, not All Weather sorts,so feel free to add anything that catches your eye.My first horse
Razor Royale
,looks like he could be trained for a repeat Racing Post Chase and so is currently having his handicap mark protected/adjusted to suit! Although i would still give him a big shout in a 21/2m Handicap at Cheltenham!
Thetotherone
has surprised me in that he has developed into an out and out stayer,i remember him failing to get to Nenuphar Collonges over 3m once and felt he lacked stamina, subsequent events have shown that the further he goes the better,i can see him taking to the National fences and pace and of course P,Nicholls would love to win it!
December 1, 2010 at 16:12 #330704After monitoring his last few runs, I firmly believe
Razor Royale
now needs a trip of 3m and further, so another tilt at the RP Chase is on the agenda, and he could develop into a Scottish or Welsh National type perhaps in the next few years. He was still in contention in the Midnight Chase race at Cheltenham last month, but just found wanting for fitness perhaps as the pace quickened in the last few furlongs – I’m certain he has sufficient stamina to last it out over 3 1/2 miles or so on good-soft/soft ground.
My two main eyecatchers so far this season are
Othermix
and
The Hollinwell
. Othermix ran a good race at Ascot on his reappearance, jumping well in the main. I know that his former trainer Tom George thought a lot of him despite not winning last season, and offloaded him to Ian Williams, who is a dab-hand at revitalizing horses. I think he will get better with age, and could be one to follow for the remainder of the year and next.
As far as
The Hollinwell
is concerned, has been the apple of Ferdy Murphy’s eye for a few years now, but has never realyl delivered yet (only one win in a dozen starts or so). However he showed a glimpse of what he is surely capable of in last year’s festival, and is another who is developing slowly over time. Ignore his last run at Newbury when he was hampered early on (was jumping extremely well at the back despite never being able to get into it), and so a drop in the weights for his next few runs in handicap company may do the trick, although all roads will lead to Cheltenham again.
May 14, 2011 at 16:20 #355445Was looking for a thread to hijack to write down my horses to follow and this seemed as good as any. I’m sure Kingfisher’s too happy rolling around in his money to care

Well I’m very happy with the first few on my eyecatchers this week. On Monday night I wrote down a list of 4 horses for a couple of friends and fellow bookmaker clerks; 3 have run and 3 have won. Gatepost at 7/2 (11/4 in the morning), Zain Shamardal at 8/15 (10/11 in the morning) and Quadrant at 13/8 (7/2 in the morning but 11/4 shot withdrawn). The 4th is Modun and I really cannot wait for him to come out. I’m sure they’re protecting his handicap mark and running him in the Wolferton.
My next one runs on Monday in the 3.40 at Wolverhampton on Monday, Ace Master. There’s a question mark about the surface though as he’s only raced at Southwell and on turf. He was well backed ahead of his debut against older horses and just missed the break and came home very nicely. The extra furlong should suit (he’s won over 7f) and will go well.
2 horses made their way into my notebook yesterday – St Barths, as I’m sure his name did for many, and Theysken’s Theory, who was just ridiculously impressive carrying a penalty for a yard whose horses have badly been needing the run. She’s apparently going for the Coronation next, which I certainly wouldn’t back her for, but wherever she goes after that should be well within her compass.
Today a Henry Candy sprinter having his first run for over a year was partnered by Frank Spencer and no doubt an awful lot of people would’ve been cursing his name had they backed him – Dorback. Just watch the 2.40 at Newbury and look out for the Green/Yellow silks with the yellow cap. Cruised home and overtook loads.
Wonder of Wonders is an obvious one, she’ll run in the Oaks next, and finally Markab who I’m sure will win the Golden Jubilee.
May 16, 2011 at 22:39 #355757Ace Master frustratingly was beaten a short-head for 3rd on his first try on polytrack.
May 17, 2011 at 09:51 #355783I am waiting for one from the Eve Johnson Houghton yard, follow her horses quite regularly.
Won 2nd time out last season and hopefully will be out soon.May 18, 2011 at 22:11 #356026Fonley’s surely just a Sandown miler?
If Mundana doesn’t win next time out I’ll eat my hat. Should have won today. Had a tardy start and paid for it.
May 23, 2011 at 14:34 #356805Well St Barths won but was hardly impressive in doing it. Reluctant to enter the stalls beforehand & I’m not sure he showed any improvement from his debut.
June 8, 2011 at 08:28 #359511Not a great race and without doubt not a great horse but SILVANUS must be nearing a win, ran 3rd couple of days ago and was stopped in his tracks twice, his day will come and very soon.

One of the most frustrating horses in training must surely be Berling!! Thrown 2 races away already with his temperament and should have won at Epsom on Saturday.
Maybe Mr Dunlop is readying him for his beloved Glorious Goodwood?
June 22, 2011 at 14:24 #362047The Wokingham often supplies numerous winners out of the race so Mac’s Power who won the ‘low drawn’ race easily must go well NTO given a fairer crack of the whip.
To that end Amigo Fritz also won the ‘low drawn’ race during the Jubilee so must be followed as well.
