Does anyone have a chart comparing the current h`cap system in Europe, in particular UK,Ireland,France,Germany?

I have a conversion table from a couple of years back but it`s changed, Ireland and the UK are always messing around with h`cap marks , Germany added a couple of kilos to every horse this year and the French h`capper appears to operate two systems!!

    Thanks

In an appendix of the German Rules of Racing you can find this table:

rating (IC=BHB) – kg (fr. CV) – (ger.) GAG
    130 – 59.0 – 105.0
    125 – 56.5 – 102.5
    120 – 54,5 – 100.0
    115 – 52.0 – 97.5
    110 – 50.0 – 95.0
    109 – 49.5 – 94.5
    108 – 49.0 – 94.0
    107 – 48.5 – 93.5
    106 – 48.0 – 93.0
    105 – 47.5 – 92.5
    104 – 47.0 – 92.0
    103 – 46.5 – 91.5
    102 – 46.0 – 91.0
    101 – 45.5 – 90.5
    100 – 45.0 – 90.0
    99 – 44.5 – 89.5

    95 – 42.5 – 87.5

    90 – 40.0 – 85.0

    Hi, Tony,

the span mentioned above is an excerpt of the written rule. Below 90 lbs BHB = IC-rating there are no cifers given and we must "estimate" concidering the problem that your (imperial) pound = 453 grams and "our" (metrical) pound = 500 grams.

So f. e. 60 lbs BHB can be between 70 and 71.5 kg GAG. 72 kg GAG is the rating of a below par 2 or 3yo maidenrace winner. 3yo winners of maiden races in April / May get average ratings of around 75 kg in April / May over here.

    Hi Parlo,

    Danke nochmals!

With regards to comparing UK / German ratings it`s only the top end thats interesting as horses tend to meet at group level, the odd exception is when a horse from the UK moves to Germany and obtains an h`cap mark, a recent example being SOPHIE GARDENS!

The French/German ratings are even more interesting because of the daily raids, speaking from personal experience we have an horse rated 63 in Germany and 27 in France, one of our other horses is rated 36 in France but doesn`t have a rating in Germany, i used to use the scale 30=69 whereafter the French tend to knit tighter thus i couldn`t say we would have 81/82 in Germany!

What`s very interesting to me is “Claimers“ in France thus im trying to compare h`cap marks between French/German trained horses, claiming races appear to make up 25% of the races run in France nowadays!

    Cheers

    Tony

As many German trained horses run in France in races below "blacktype", there should be many lines for comparison.

You can find the French ratings at

    http://www2.france-galop.com/FGWeb/doma … _perf.aspx

    and the German ratings at:

    http://www.galopp-sport.de/dvrWebApp/ht … eSuche.jsp

You must insert the horse’s name in each website.

In my dissertation on estimation of breeding value and horse-prices I used this equation to compare French cote valeur-ratings below 36 kg with German GAG-ratings – but this might be a bit (2 to 4 lbs?) to much:

    GAG = 44 + CV.

If I find some time today / tomorrow I’ll research for some up-to-date examples. For now this: in May these German trained horses won claiming races in France: Goldarena, Illimani, Arrow Flight. Winners of weight-for-age-races below listed-race-class were: Cabari, Forthe Millionkiss, Courthouse Steps. Maiden-winner from Chantilly Baila me won a G2-Oaks-trial on sunday at Cologne.

You could say we know a little about COURTHOUSE STEPS  MOSLES  CABARI and MAREK and maybe a little about IMBATIDA  in the first at Frankfurt this evening (just considering whether to go in a short sleeved shirt)!!

Quite a few German trained horses running in Compiegne today!

Thanks again Parlo for your time

Of those horses mentioned above only 4 have current ratings in both countries (GER – FR, both in kg):

    Forthe Millionkiss 90.5 – 46.0
    Marek 76.5 – 40.0
    Illimani 75.0 – 32.0
    Courthouse Steps 65.5 – 27.0

But some of these horses and others mentioned above have run only in one country in recent times.
