June 29, 2008 at 13:32 #170726Sorry – meant ot tot scores up as we went along but haven’t had time. Anyway, the winner will be able to select one of these three –
The Bumper Book Of Football – Hunter Davies (hardback)
“The Bumper Book of Football” delivers a feast of facts, feats and anecdotes relating to every conceivable aspect of the world’s most popular game: how it began, and how its rules developed; the stories of the great clubs, legendary managers, epic games and great players (including today’s top premiership stars); bizarre facts and records; origins of footballing words and phrases; famous football quotes; plus footballing nicknames and superstitions.Only A Game – Eamon Dunphy (paperback)
The classic inside account of a season at a professional football club. Midfield player Eamon Dunphy charts the progress of Millwall during a season that begins with high hopes and ends with him on the transfer list. Populated with extraordinary characters and filled with high drama, “Only a Game?” is a riveting read as well as being an exceptional insight into professional sport. “The best and most authentic memoir by a professional footballer”The Story Of The World Cup – Brian Glanville (paperback)
It really is amazing just how much Brian Granville has managed to fit into this wonderful book. However it really is far from just being an excellent source of statistics for each of the world cups. This book is quite simply jam packed with wonderful, and quite often hilarious tales, ranging from the poor organisation and violence that ravaged the first ever world cup in Uraguay, to accounts of individual players. The tale of the pure footballing genius of Garinsha who was also blighted with complete madness makes fascinating reading. A book that every football fan should have on their bookshelf.June 30, 2008 at 22:22 #171055Result tomorrow – sorry for delay.
June 30, 2008 at 22:44 #171057Result –
1. Nathan Hughes +1 goal
2= Cavellino rampante -1 goal
2= Kevin -1 goal
4. davidbrady -2 goals
5= Theoneandonlytonymccoy -3 goals
5=Sberry -3 goals
7. Batman -4 goals
7= Gaz’s way De Solzen -4 goals
7= Himself -4 goals
10. AngloGerman (unlucky Darren) -7goalsWell done Nathan’ whose strategy of avoiding those potential big losers (players with -3 and -2 handicaps) paid off handsomely. Nathan found both Fabregas and Olic who both scored off a level handicap and his only loser was Baros (-1) with his other two starting off level and failing to add to nor detract from the tally.
Most of the others had at least one expensive failure – the most expensive being Toni (-3)., Benzema (-2), Henry (-3) and Gomez (-3)
Well done Nathan – pm me with your choice of book and delivery address please.
I’ll refine this for the World Cup!!
June 30, 2008 at 22:55 #171061Well done Nathan
July 1, 2008 at 17:31 #171191Magic, the celebrations have started. i’ll have to pop to tesco’s for a bottle of champagne or cider

Thanks to Cormack for running the competition, it felt for me like i was Rangers on a UEFA cup run because the players i picked did’nt score many goals only difference was i managed to win in the end.
i thought my chance’s were slim in the beginning when the likes of Villa and Poldoski were banging in the goals but somehow i hung on and look forward to reading the book about the Millwall player Eamon Dunphy.
i hope you’ve got a first class stamp Cormack because it’s a long way from Scotland to Somerset.
