Very disappointing effort by Military Order. There was talk beforehand about the Appleby stable being out of form. I thought that might be a bit exaggerated but maybe it is an issue now?

Auguste Rodin looks straight out of a 19th century painting, such a refined rangy colt, and well suited for 12 furlongs. Would like to see him in the St. Leger but alas that’s worth negative stallion value so they’ll stick to the Coolmore formula with him.

King of Steel is a horse I’d like to see run in the big money turf races this side of the pond, he’s got the speed for them, but he’s so big I wonder if the turns will be tight for him!

You can never write off an Aidan O’Brien horse… He’ll do the same thing with Democracy..😂

Arrest would have lost if running a one horse race but even so I’m not sure why Frankie and also Passenger seemed so keen to latch onto the O’Brien pacemakers.

“I’m not sure why Frankie….seemed so keen to latch onto the O’Brien pacemakers.”

I guess on that ground Dettori thought the only thing he had going for him was he knew his colt stayed the trip so he wanted to be up there.

Frankie just said Arrest didnt like the course.
Kevin Stott beating himself up about, maybe, going too early. He shouldnt – his horse ran a great race and paid out a hefty sum of money for us e/w backers :good: .

Great price Mike at 18/1, very well done
I think Cork was on too so well done also.
Well done with your E/W Wilts, and I agree
it was a really good interview with O’Brien.

Pity Waipiro totally missed the break and was
still last coming round Tattenham Corner, so
to finish 6th was no disgrace.

You can see why it was an open Derby because all the trials worked out terrible on the day and two who didn’t really run in trials came miles clear. You could argue the Guineas is a trial but he didn’t run really did he?

I don’t think Military Order ran his race tbf finishing last getting thrashed by the horse he beat at Lingfield.

    Well done winners. :good:
    Well done connections. :good:
Trainer’s done a fine job, as he usually does. :good:

However, don’t want to be a killjoy but:
Nobody can really tell whether it was the AOB or anyone else’s best training performance.
People shouldn’t go OTT about the trainer.

Often a matter of the horse’s temperament or trainer form rather than the horse actually being out of form at one time and in form a month later. Coming back to form when the trainer hit form.

If a horse doesn’t like being crowded all they need to do is keep him on the outside. Nowt to do with the trainer.

If the horse didn’t like being interfered with in the Guineas after the stable companion came across him; why should the trainer effectively be praised for that?

AOB’s form wasn’t that good in early May, it’s very good now. Should a trainer be praised to the hilt effectively for being in worse form at the time of the 2000 Guineas?

Lot was made about Little Big Bear not staying a mile, but it looked to me he was beaten before stamina should’ve been an issue.

Once a trainer is in form the horse is in better shape for the race.

Auguste Rodin already had the best form (albeit on a softer surface).
Only had to come back to form.

Maybe not but they can express their opinion of it being so

A tremendous effort from King Of Steel. When the realisation kicked in that my selections were getting cooked, I yelled for King Of Steel to hold on and win … but sadly it wasn’t to be.

The finish of this Derby bares a striking comparison to the 1977 one won by The Minstrel.

First time I’ve EVER praised the bloke in all the years since he took out a licence, ffs!

I’ll say what I like, cheers.

    “People shouldn’t….” – F off!

“Maybe not but they can express their opinion of it being so.”

    Very well said, Nathan.

Arrest totally boiled over in the prelims before the course became an issue – Military Order was the most puzzling run, he travelled sweetly until just before turning in and then cut out completely…..to bad to be true.

First 7 home were either in midfield or at the rear and it would appear that was the place to be – the time was only 0.10s off the Coronation Cup so being in the front rank really wasn’t the place to be and those that were paid for it late on.

Rematch at the Curragh, will Stott hold onto his horse a lot longer as he seemed to totally quicken away from Auguste Rodin before getting outstayed, White Birch came from last and must be given big credit but he seems to have issues before the start as he did the same thing at York….not sure how they sort that out but if they can he could be a serious horse.

If they went too quick up front, White Birch’s run might not have been quite as good as it looked.

Those who finished well might have been running on through beaten horses who’s gone too quick and maybe weren’t getting the trip.

A few non-stayers in there today, I think.
