top class performance by a top class horse.
race plan went perfect, just surprised other runners allowed this to happen so easily.
agree about parade’s,surely in fairness New Approach should have gone down first.
this race shows when everything falls right for a horse, how good they are.
But as we know it’s a rarity.October 19, 2008 at 14:58 #185392"blowing at times" does not have anything to do with the time. Were they blowing when the record was set?Surely blowing going down would cancel the effect of blowing on the way back. The horses would be tired when they got to the start.
October 19, 2008 at 15:22 #185393Won as you would expect him to at his best and the fact he settled well off a good lead meant the rest were in with no chance and tbh I think he would have also have beaten DOM, HTN and the others that go for the BC. He would also have giveen Zarkava a race in the Arc based on that performance.
October 20, 2008 at 16:05 #185564That was New Approach’s career best performance surely? Ok he was the only true Group 1 horse in the race but he demolished them and ran to 129 IMO some four pounds above his previous best. I have him a pound ahead of Zarkava albeit the filly with a rather large +.
New Approach settled well for once and that was a big help plus I personally think he loves Newmarket. The fast gallop brought his stamina into play and he looked a serious horse.
Good news for the Derby as well this year the Derrby winner has taken a further two Group 1’s.
New Approach may not be a Sea Bird or a Nijinsky or a Mill Reef but he’ll go down as a good Derby winner nevertheless.
October 21, 2008 at 01:00 #185618he won the race in a manner that you would expect. nothing more, nothing less. There was nothing in that field to come near him
October 21, 2008 at 01:07 #185621So if someone had bet you he’d win, and win by 5.5 lengths or less, you would have taken the bet?
Saturdays run was impressive and job done, however as a regular spectator the "ponying" won’t be missed one iota.
October 21, 2008 at 04:00 #185651Breathe easy if you’re following Casual Conquest or Tartan Bearer into the new season in ’09.
I sure am – like the look of Casual Conquest at 10f.
