Absolutely fantastic to see this great horse back to winning ways and looking full of confidence over hurdles again.
Why oh why has it taken Mullins so long to see sense. He’s pretty much ruined the horses prime.
This should’ve happened last season and he’d have had a huge shout for the Champion Hurdle. It’s probably a bit late now but he’s definitely not without a chance.
I’m guessing Willie might throw him in the World Hurdle though.
December 31, 2025 at 15:11 #1749179Surely they got to stick to hurdles now not seen race but saw he won

December 31, 2025 at 15:13 #1749182Lovely performance and he was very slick at his hurdles which is in stark contrast to his fencing ‘technique’ – Mullins seems to finally be on the right track with him and said they will keep him over hurdles.
The Aintree Hurdle would seem the obvious target for him – not convinced a Stayers Hurdle will suit him as that race can be very attritional (it found out Annie Power’s stamina limitations) and if they were wanting to run him at the Cheltenham Festival, then the Champion Hurdle seems the best of the very limited options for him.
He is not short of pace (he was long odd ons for the 2024 Champion Chase before the wheels feel off his career) and letting him go from the front (as he did today) would be interesting because we all know that many Champion Hurdle winners were strong stayers that won over further than 2m, I could see him in the fight for places for sure and as Golden Ace (who I think he would beat) showed last year……..you just never know what can happen.

just seen it on racing post, won wellVF x
December 31, 2025 at 15:32 #1749185Well, it was the minimum you would expect from a chaser rated between 170-175. The runner-up is only rated 144 over hurdles and gave him four pounds. Just ask yourself: who was really trying???
December 31, 2025 at 15:50 #1749187Good bit of placement from the triner and would have done a world of good for the horse’s confidence to jump a clear round and win easily – could easily be the springboard to go onto to bigger and better things.
Unfortunate for the rest of the field to run into him but he made it a decent test from the start to where the only horse (Ballyadam) that could stay within hailing distance of him sacrificed any chance he had of finishing 2nd as he fell into a heap after jumping the last (when in 2nd place) and finished 6th.
January 3, 2026 at 13:21 #1749462Lovely to see El Fabiolo back. He’s still unexposed over hurdles, and it will be fascinating to see what he achieves.
I’d be very uneasy to see him running over fences again, and hope connections are not tempted to do so.
January 3, 2026 at 13:29 #1749464It’d be an appalling decision to go back chasing again.
There’s plenty of races for him over hurdles either side of the Irish Sea.
January 3, 2026 at 13:40 #1749467Mullins was interviewed on RTV earlier this week and seemed to say the horse is staying over hurdles, for the time being at least. It looks like the Aintree Hurdle will be his main target.
