October 14, 2010 at 18:10 #322407Wasn’t his career cut short by injury? Pre internet days, didn’t actually know what had happened to him; glad to hear he had a happy retirement. Always loved his name, although hearing it again makes me feel very old.
October 16, 2010 at 18:46 #322818Egypt Mill Prince struck into himself when running at Newbury at the age of 10,the vets wanted to put him down but Mrs P would have none of it.To his credit he ran again 2yrs later and was then given to me to go pointing with as he still enjoyed his racing so much.We had some great days out with him and he always enjoyed himself. He loved hunting and was in a different class to anything else.He would have carried on pointing at the age of 15 as he was so well but foot and mouth put pay to that,so he was retired .He spent his last years with his great mate Scotty, also a retired winning chaser, who was also put down at the same time. The old boy always did what he wanted when he wanted and we all worked round him ,to say he was a character would be putting it mildly! It was an honour and a privelege to have known and ridden him, rest in peace old man, you deserve it.
October 16, 2010 at 22:34 #322845I had it in my head that he’d had a career [possibly life] threatening injury but, as I said, in those days it wasn’t so easy to find out what had happened to horses. Didn’t realise that he had raced again two years later. Thanks for giving him such a good retirement.
