Shocking to see on tv r.i.p.
January 6, 2018 at 18:03 #1336001Poor thing, after he fell, he ran loose for about a furlong, stumbled on the flat and took a summersault.
I think it was a heart attack, so hopefully he didn’t suffer too long. Never seen such an incident.Rest In Peace Edvardo
January 6, 2018 at 18:42 #1336009Poor lad got a leg caught up in the reins running loose, subsequently fell and broke his neck. Awful camerawork / production editor trying to avoid the reality of what happened.
Had he not been B/D he’d be in his stable tonight getting his feed.January 6, 2018 at 18:55 #1336011One of the most awful things I’ve seen, made worse by initially feeling relieved to see both horses get up apparently unscathed after what looked like a nasty incident. Must have made it even more heartbreaking for his connections too. Poor Edvardo. R.I.P.
January 6, 2018 at 19:12 #1336012I can’t believe it happened. I nearly backed Edvardo this morning but the name reminded me of Eduard who I had backed in his final, fatal race and I went off him thinking the worse if I did…and then the horror show unfolded RIP Edvardo.
January 6, 2018 at 19:21 #1336016I saw the awful fall and didn’t watch anymore, saddened to hear that he got up only to come to a dreadful end.
RIP Eduardo
You are at peace now, you must have been so frightened, poor boy.
All thoughts to connections.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 6, 2018 at 21:17 #1336044I thought he fractured his neck in the first fall, then did the same thing while loose, and finished the break, because he fell exactly like he did getting bought down. Whatever happened it was just horrible to watch. Poor fella. RIP Edvardo

You could be right, because when running loose he just summersaulted for almost no reason. Sometimes it would be interesting to know what post mortems really reveal.
January 6, 2018 at 22:57 #1336060They said that it was getting his leg in the reins, but I will be interested to hear the result of the postmortem on this one. I too thought the same as Tinkersue, that he was injured in the initial fall, that galloping on activated the initial break causing either instant paralysis or a heart attack. I would most certainly hope reins used in racing would snap, my pony’s certainly did on a couple of occasions when I was a child, he was never brought down. If the reins are found to be the cause of this tragedy, then modifications are required.
January 8, 2018 at 14:37 #1336445Sadly I have seen this before a few years ago, when a horse fell exactly like Edvardo, he rolled back onto his feet, galloped a few yards and collapsed lifeless. It was as if the body was doing the last kicking, as if it was on the ground violently kicking away, doing the running action. Doesn’t make this sad loss any better.
January 9, 2018 at 10:23 #1336589Racing Post features an article on the trainer and as Tinkersue and I initially thought, it wasn’t the reins. His spine was broken and also he had a ruptured spleen. I watched the reply and the other horse that fell barged into him bringing him partly down, he did’t actually roll on the ground. This impact must have caused his horrible injuries. Horrible luck, hopefully he didn’t suffer for too long.
January 9, 2018 at 11:03 #1336596It’s so sad to read this; thankfully, I didn’t see the race but Mike was watching and shouted to me and told me what had happened. I’ve just been reading ‘Go Down to the Beaten’ and the chapter about McElvey and they feel the same thing happened to him, in that the fall had injured him and he fell through the rails because the initial injury. I feel as if someone is watching over the racing at the moment and thinking up more and more awful things that can happen; it’s the worst few weeks, racing wise, that I can remember.

Well spotted Tinkersue, but that makes it even worse for the horse. Full credit to his trainer for providing us with such unpleasant details.
January 23, 2018 at 18:34 #1338799So sadly joined by his trainer today – Richard Woollacott RIP … far too young to leave this world.
January 23, 2018 at 22:12 #1338820Dreadfully sad news lochinver.
