Surely a longevity record for a jockey

Who remembers him? I don’t, as he retired in 1959!

There’ll be many an old-timer int’north who will though, as he rode Musidora to victory in the Guineas and Oaks of 1949, for which feat there’s the now familiar race at the York May meeting named after her

One of several good Australian jockeys, others being Scobie Breasley and Ron Hutchinson to come and ride here shortly after the war

I must admit that I’d only heard of his name through the association with Musidora; I knew nothing else about him. It’s only just now that I looked him up and saw that he rode such good horses as Sayajirao, Black Tarquin and Nearula.

103 is a cracking age; I’m sure that he really enjoyed his life. May he rest in peace.
