Thanks, all. Well done Triptych and Steve
July 2, 2016 at 16:36 #1254034I got my place money back with Time Test but have no means of withdrawing as boylesports will not let me add another card unless my balance is under £10. If my card has expired how can I withdraw on it. Why cant I just add another one.? Seems a strange one.
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
July 2, 2016 at 16:41 #1254035Is he overrated Joe? I thought both of the front two put up big performances there and both firmly put the older generation in their place.

Yes, maybe a bit hasty on my part; disappointing might be a better word given the expectations. Always dangerous to make assumptions and far too many, to my mind, were made about the ride he got last time and how he was definitely the best in the race. I don’t think he would have beaten the winner that day, even with a better ride, and GG is a massive bet in The Sussex.
I know you’re a massive Galileo Gold fan Joe, but I don’t think he’s miles clear of the Gurkha. Thought that was a step up from the horse today although he’s overrated in the context of those calling him a stone cold certainty beforehand.
After the hard race here will he even turn up in Sussex? I guess he will if they are considering sending Minding to the Nassau after the campaign she’s had already this year. Surely she’s earned a break?
Has O’Brien forgotten about the term “Summer break”
July 2, 2016 at 16:42 #1254036As for the race itself well done those on Hawkbill.
Has O’Brien said anything about the Sussex as I had to go out straight after the race and have missed the interviews.?
Time Test ran a blinder in the conditions and on fast ground wins the Juddmonte International……

I wouldn’t draw any firm conclusions about the generations after that race.
The pacemaker looks the part but clearly he shouldn’t have finished that close in fourth. Everyone seemed to know Time Test didn’t want that ground. In hindsight My Dream Boat was probably flattered at Ascot but with conditions seemingly in his favour he was still disappointing. Western Hymn was woeful and the other runner was just an unwanted irritant.
July 2, 2016 at 17:36 #1254055Well I wasn’t actually “drawing any conclusions” about the different generations. I was just saying they put the older horses in their place in that race, that’s all.
July 2, 2016 at 18:01 #1254059WELL DONE JOE AND JAC

And I have to say Mrsraymo backed the winner at 10/1 too!!
Me, I couldn’t tip a baby out of a pram today!!

Thanks Raymo
What a great result. I’ve followed him since he won at Newmarket on the Rowley Mile end April where he stood out in the paddock and amazing that he’s still unbeaten snd seems to be getting better and better..Well done to Joe, Steve, judge and Mrs Raymo…
a shrewd move by Godolphin to supplement him and it payed off.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 2, 2016 at 18:13 #1254061Has O’Brien forgotten about the term “Summer break”
Sure he hasn’t – Gleneagles got a very long one.
July 2, 2016 at 18:16 #1254063Congrats to Steve, Jac and Joe and all those who backed Hawksbill. A superb race and a great battle. No excuses – The Gurkha ran his heart out but was just outstayed. Whilst I think we have yet to see the best of him, I can see why people are saying he is starting to look disappointing. He has certainly cost me a tidy sum!!!

I would love to see him on better ground but not sure there is much chance of that this Summer! This race aside don’t you all think it’s super difficult this year with all the rain around. It’s not an easy game at the best of times but especially hard to get a read on form when the ground is so changeable. That’s my excuse anyway!

July 2, 2016 at 18:26 #1254064They took a risk again (a la Minding) parachuting in The Gurkha as a late replacement without a proper prep, and like Minding, it would probably have paid off on better ground. And like Minding, he’ll roll on and win his original target, Ryan wasn’t too hard on him today. He’s a miler on any ground, but 10f horse was too far on soft ground today. It’s a difficult step up to 10f in the Eclipse, very few horses have tried it, let alone succeeded. It was his first run over 10f, the winner’s third, he may indeed improve over 10f for the run.
July 2, 2016 at 18:38 #1254068Godolphin have been underestimated as well and I think they’ve turned the corner. They won one of the big races at Haydock today too. Got a lot of promising two year olds, the yard had an excellent Royal Ascot and the appointment of John Ferguson as racing manager has steadied the ship.

Spot on. Ferguson has made the world of difference.

July 3, 2016 at 11:27 #1254128A very inconclusive race. The going was key and the winner handled it best. Hopefully we get decent ground for the likes of the Sussex or we could get yet a different horse winning. The ghurka seems the only likely to get near a rating of 130 in my opinion. Reminiscent of declaration of war who ran on unsuitable going most of the season then won a cracking juddmonte on good going.
July 3, 2016 at 11:47 #1254129Godolphin have had a serious clean out of staff in recent weeks, some new guidance might just be what they have been looking for

Declaration of war was beaten twice on good to firm before he ran in the juddmonte. Of course The Gurkha could well improve for better ground but why not give credit to the winner? Maybe he can reach 130 as well.
July 3, 2016 at 13:23 #1254141Another crushing blow for the 3-y-o Classic horses as a 3-y-o handicap graduate sees off the best of the Classic generation.
With Time Test being a weak G2 performer on all known evidence, these look like very lean times at the top level from 1m to 1m 4f. We can only hope Ballydoyle have a policy shift and give potential all-time great Minding more than one try against the colts.
