Hawksbill looks like value now at 10s. Big strong horse who will like the ground. Don’t see what he’s done wrong either.

to be honest though if you put a gun to my head and asked me to call the winner I would say the Gurkha, anyone who took the fancy prices last week must be feeling very content with themselves, although my heart is rather cheering for Time Test I’m not convinced he’ll be able to give the O’Brien horse weight and a beating, particularly on rain softened ground.

Hawkbill will relish the slog and could put this to bed very early even as far as two out, but My Dream Boat is still even at four learning the game. Already a GS winner over CD when beating Western Hymn, the latter is a game horse and five year old’s have done particularly well in this race, but it’s the two many bridesmaid spots that worry me, but has his ground. I am on My Dream Boat as i still think there is more to come from him on this ground, his Chantilly run in the Prix D’Ispahan i think is going to work out well eventually.

I would be against The Gurkha. I don’t think he wants soft ground to be seen at his best. Even allowing for a poor ride he was still lethargic last time and nothing like the horse who ran away with a Classic. Not easy to concede the weight but I would oppose him with My Dream Boat. Hopefully, this time he will not drift across the track.

I see no value in The Gurkha at odds-on and Time Test has been pulled out on better ground than this.

I did Hawkbill at Royal Ascot and had an each-way shot ante-post for this to small stakes each-way with third place inclusive at the time. I was hoping Time Test would have been pulled out and The Gurkha might just find this a slog in the conditions.

I just felt Hawkbill might spring a surprise and was better value each-way than The Gurkha at this trip on the ground.

Good luck to the boys backing the O’Brien fav as a certainty here. I see better value elsewhere.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Had a feeling Hawkbill was underrated. Well done joe. The Gurkha didn’t do much wrong just ran into a good one!

The Ghurka beginning to look over-rated. Run and see if you can still get 5/2 Galileo Gold for The Sussex

Is he overrated Joe? I thought both of the front two put up big performances there and both firmly put the older generation in their place. :good:

Said Gurkha isnt a good horse!

    1) Still best horse in the race dont get me wrong but definitely not a group 1 horse and that race was definitely not a group 1.
    2) Gurkha is still green, and the bend issue could of cost it the race. Had to be taken back a length and that would of messed with the horses breathing and rhythm.
    3) That said it still should of powered clear but didnt run on strongly.

Yes, maybe a bit hasty on my part; disappointing might be a better word given the expectations. Always dangerous to make assumptions and far too many, to my mind, were made about the ride he got last time and how he was definitely the best in the race. I don’t think he would have beaten the winner that day, even with a better ride, and GG is a massive bet in The Sussex.

What a fab race, I enjoyed that!

I was on My Dream Boat (now wondering if he was a one-hit wonder), but was nevertheless excited to see Hawkbill go on like that.

No excuses for The Gurkha that I could see, he did look like he was going to go past Hawkbill a couple of times but I guess he just wasn’t as good today.

I suppose if you say before a race that a horse is crap but will definitely win, then you can say ‘I told you so’ after the race whatever the outcome. :mail:
