Anyone looking at this, yet? Not only am I away that week but I will have no internet connection and will be miles away from the nearest bookie [which is at Berwick, I think]. As it’s my favourite race of the year this is a nightmare and I need to find the winner ‘now’. Have been working long hours lately but the work has dried up and I can treat myself to a jolly good look at the race. Y’know dear old Nanton seemed to be running a decent race the other day and must be coming down the weights big time. Bet that dratted horse of Dr Koukash’s is running [the one that’s been letting me down all year, Kiama Bay]. Just looked at the entries and it’s a very high class field; can’t see many of my old favourites running.
August 3, 2012 at 23:04 #408867I love Numbers Theory’s sprint finishes, Moehat, and wonder if Grandera’s half-brother, Lord Of The House, could be anything.
August 4, 2012 at 09:52 #408898I’ll check them out, Grimes. Looking at the runners has made me realise how out of touch I am with things at the moment. I know I made a note to follow the Goldie horse
earlier in the season and it has a decent weight; they said on TML that Goldies’ horses were coming back to form as well.
August 4, 2012 at 15:28 #408935If Motivado needed a penalty to get him into the race, today takes him up to 8.11 so I’d assume that will be @ the cut off point? Somewhere on the floor next to me in a huge pile of ‘stuff to be sorted out’ is my ‘guide to finding the Ebor winner’.

It is not a dartboard and dart I hope

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 4, 2012 at 21:10 #408971I really like these handicaps, Steve, and they’ve been a happy hunting ground for me over the past few years, but I’m finding them a lot more difficult of late. Had a fabulous last minute ‘top up bet’ on Sesenta the other year, and also Dirar [we used to go when the race was on a Wednesday] but I’m out of touch these days.

The Ebor has never really been a good race for me, Further Flight and Hasten To Add are the only two I have backed in more than 20 years of trying. I tend to prefer races of 1 1/2 miles or less. There have been a few head scratching results the last 15 years or so but I will probably be drawn in on the day, despite my modest strike rate in the race.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 4, 2012 at 22:23 #408986Can’t do sprint handicaps; got the winner of one, once but it was in France and was disqualified.

Sorry, I posted on the wrong thread earlier regarding the Stewards Cup.
Too much excitement at the Olympics!! LOL

August 6, 2012 at 19:09 #409104Is your ‘Guide to finding the Ebor winner’ an analysis of your own or an article from a paper, Mo. Either way, let us know what the final conclusion is, will you?
August 6, 2012 at 20:08 #409110The Baronet has always loved a tilt at this race and if Montivado turns up he will take all the beating indeed, looks a typical Sir Mark improver and has been laid out for this, confident he will go off 5/2 or less. Only have a win bet at 8s so will have an ew bet nearer the time
August 6, 2012 at 21:06 #409114I might go for Berling, bit of a monkey but has always promised so much. His Chester Stakes win last year was a cracking effort with Ile De Re franking the form, and whilst not so good so far this year, his has the ability to go close (if getting luck in running!)
August 7, 2012 at 16:12 #409165Tend to follow the stats on the racecaller site, Grimes. Not sure that horses win with penalties which puts me off Motivado. Used to always look for a horses at the bottom of the weights, especially if they have a claimer on board [Sesenta] and on the run up to the race watch the jockey bookings on a daily
basis. I think Kieran Fallon rides York particularly well. Then of course we have the Barney Curley plot horses [none this year] and the ‘dark horse from Ireland [Dirar]’ except the Irish horses aren’t dark this year. I’m definately going to stick with Icon Dream if he runs but without my computer the week before I’m going to struggle. I don’t find Thesportinglife site as easy to negotiate as I used to; wish they’d all stop changing things!
August 8, 2012 at 01:38 #409201As much as I love Nanton…I’m thinking of going for MOUNT ATHOS for this one Moe, he had a lot of the runners behind him in the John Smith’s Silver Cup and of course he’s a CD winner.
Out of Monjeu by a Slip Anchor mare he’s progressing with every race and Kieron Fallon will most probably be aboard.
nb: Landaman (Mark Johnston) Dual winner at Goodwood last week, worth a bit each way.Time to get one of those new fangled mobiles Moe that connects to the internet and a Paddy Power online account then you won’t miss any of the action and can put a few sneaky bets on too

Don’t back MOUNT ATHOS, Cumani stated that he will NOT be running due to the weight he has:-

On Landaman’s chances, I would be a little bit worried about the trip, he seems to be a 10 furlong horse and his style of racing would be harder to employ over the Ebor distance.

August 8, 2012 at 22:04 #409285Does anyone know anything about Hammerfest? Won over 15f.

Cheers for that Steve
I don’t usually back ante post as have been stung like this in the past.
Landaman set to run this Saturday, I was hoping he would come to Newmarket but looks like he is set to run at Haydock over 12f so will watch with interest.
