(1:20) 338C Durkan New Homes Juvenile H’dle

2 Chevalier Country (JTGorman) – PTownend 11,00
3 Drunken Sailor (PWFlynn) – MDarcy(B)(T) 11,00
4 Jettymarc (TCollins) – PWFlood 11,00
5 King Of Queens (TMullins) – RMPower 11,00
6 Lethal Weapon (CRoche) – APCrowe 11,00
7 Ready To Rocknroll (JTGorman) – PACarberry 11,00
8 Tharawaat (GElliott) – DNRussell 11,00
9 Tilabay (ASexton) – IJMcCarthy 11,00
10 Yield For No One (USA) (EDoyle) – JRBarry 11,00
11 Geestring (DTHughes) – RHughes 10,09Looks a decent enough renewal of the first grade 1 of the Leopardstown Christmas Festival. Tharawaat has looked very useful for Gordon Elliott. He bolted up in a grade 3 at Fairyhouse last time out with Paul Flynn’s Drunken Sailor chasing him home. He’s prominent in the Triumph betting but he needs soft ground and he’s more likely to get that here then at Cheltenham.
I have been impressed with Lethal Weapon though. He was decent on the flat for David Wachman and he’s looked a natural in his two hurdle starts. A line through Seenya leaves him a lot to find with Tharawaat but his price is likely to reflect that. If he’s anywhere around the 5/1or 6/1 mark then I think he’s an e/w steal.
December 23, 2008 at 20:01 #198844Really like Tharawaat, but think king of queens might have everything in his favourt for a good e/w bet.
December 24, 2008 at 04:35 #198908You’ve got 2 hopes of 5 or 6/1 Lethal IC, my tissue was 6/4 and 2/1 and I’d say that’ll be about right. At those prices it’s a no bet race.
December 24, 2008 at 04:42 #198913irish-racing.com have him forecast at 5/1. Suppose it is wishful thinking on my part! Would be a nice Christmas present
December 26, 2008 at 17:43 #199257At the prices I think King Of Queens @ 11-1 and Chavalier Country 33-1 are reasonable value.
December 27, 2008 at 05:08 #199434Probably the best renewal of this race for a good few years. The front two look like they are both very nice horses. I have liked this Lethal Weapon since his debut over timber at Clonmel and I think he’s a horse with a future. He picked up Tharawaat quite nicely when Alan Crowe asked him to and he galloped on well to the line.
14/1 for the Triumph looks fair enough, especially considering Christy Roche’s comments after the race. Hopefully the antepost market for that race will become a lot clearer by tomorrow evening with Starluck, Donegal, Pepite de Soleil, Simarian and Walkon all set to run.
December 27, 2008 at 05:42 #199440I think the proximity of King Of Queens is probably why the front two havent been shortened significantly in the betting, but I actually think that everything was in KOQs favour for a good run today and he had a good ride, so the form of the race actually probably quite good.
Ref Tharawaat/Lethal Weapon, it is worth remembering that Tharawaat was trying to make all at a reasonable pace, which left him there to be picked off on the run in, he wont need to try that at cheltenham and there is every chance he may reverse the placings there.
Reference tomorrows race, walkon looks like a real soft ground horse and the fast pace and indisputably soft going last time IMO probably resulted in him showing the best he can muster. I wouldnt be 100% convinced he could run to the same form tomorrow, and if the pace is somewhat sedate then there could be a few that are too good for him.
December 27, 2008 at 20:07 #199564Everything panned out brilliantly for Walkon and he battered them, Zaynar now looks an unstoppable force at the minute.
