Maybe iam a bit risk averse , and i understand keep calm and carry on but the DWC meeting going ahead seems a bit odd at the moment . Things are not quietening down much and Meydan looks a reasonable sized building target wise .
Also at some point with the amount of racing ownership in UK centred in Gulf it surely will filter down . I know the cost of horses chicken feed compared to intercepter missiles and military hardware but theres plenty to trim on the racing front if the oil dont start moving .March 19, 2026 at 14:52 #1760438Good point HCMW. I wonder if the trainers and owners sending horses to the meeting would consider taking friends and family with them as well. If you think it’s safe for the horses to participate why not take your loved ones for a great weekend in the desert with you?
March 19, 2026 at 22:16 #1760512Think it is unwise to continue with the meeting and rather foolhardy for people to travel over there in the first place now – they have no idea how quickly things could change and go very badly pear shaped if the Iranian’s decide to expand their targets……..one of (if not the biggest) sports event in Dubai becomes a very tempting target especially with US and UK/European involvement.
March 19, 2026 at 22:31 #1760514Agree LD73. Even if the meeting isn’t targeted, any escalation could mean trainers, jockeys and horses are stuck there for some time. Wonder who will be happy to gamble missing the start of the European flat season.
March 20, 2026 at 09:38 #1760528Its playing politics carrying on ond look of video of reporter in Lebanon talking then seeing a missile homing in just behind him shows its not a great time to have crowds at a high profile event .
I look forward to DWC night , one of highlights of racing year imho but folly to carry on.March 21, 2026 at 15:36 #1760654All set to go ahead at the moment according to Rishi Persad reporting on the Opening Show this morning.
However regarding Rebel’s Romance and his highly touted clash with Calandagan….Godolphin run a Fantasy League competition which starts December through to Dubai World Cup night where you can chose 10 horses from a list of Godolphin horses participating with a total of 5 swaps up to the big day Dubai World Cup night.
Just 2 weeks ago after ‘Super Saturday’ was staged Rebel’s Romance and Talk Of New York were withdrawn from the list of horses you could choose your stable from meaning they would no longer be taking part in the competition…
So this is a real headscratcher as bookies are going 3/1 Rebels Romance for the Sheema Classic and racing sites are saying he will be a ‘possible’ runner against Calandagan.
Knowing how much Sheikh Mo thinks of his flagship horse would he really risk his life and those of others to stage this event or will it suddenly be cancelled days before should attacks escalate once more.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 21, 2026 at 20:11 #1760676I imagine there are a lot of dodgy conversations taking place in the Middle East at the moment and an awful lot of money (and more) on the table. If such a bet was available, I’d be lumping on it going ahead without incident (though also possible that it will be cancelled at the last minute because negotiations haven’t gone as hoped).
March 22, 2026 at 17:52 #1760731Crazy they are still carrying on with this. The orange one could do something stupid and jockeys, trainers and horses trapped out there. If i was an owner i would be saying no way.

The more I know the less I understand.
March 23, 2026 at 09:13 #1760749Be interested who goes and who dont , whoever goes really should be on their own and not exoect any govenment or tax payer help if it goes bent .
I hope it works out , but this next few days could be chaos if no one backs down with Trumps deadline .
I cannot work out if these racing people are mad , brave , or blinded by cash . A mix of all three maybe .March 23, 2026 at 09:27 #1760750As predicted Rebel’s Romance will not be taking part at the Dubai World Cup Meeting. Would presume he came back with Talk Of New York after their ‘Super Saturday’ meeting 2 weeks ago and is with Charlie Appleby.
Hope the right decision will be made as far as all the other horses are concerned.
