I mention yet again that I watch very little flat racing these days – a few Saturdays plus the ‘festival’ meetings.
I went to York last year to see Frankel and noticed that a number of horses seemed unable to stay balanced in the last 3 furlongs or so. I saw it again watching on TV last year, and have noticed the same thing these past two days.
You expect it at Epsom, Goodwood and Newmarket, but York looks about as level as they get, galloping and very ‘simple’
Has something changed at York in recent years because of the drainage work?
Is it that long straight with no relief, no rest for one side of the horse?
Or am I just not watching enough racing at other tracks to get a fair comparison?
