Drone – I hope you are avoiding the flooding in York.
Thoughts with everyone affected by the flooding oop North.
December 27, 2015 at 18:01 #1227426Thank you Paul
I should have sunk without trace years ago but I’m keeping my head above water. High and dry thanks to living on one of the few ridges in York more than circa 15 feet above sea level. A walk to the end of my road reveals the picturesque Lake Knavesmire with gentle waves lapping a shore approximately 25 yards from the Henry Cecil gates at the racecourse
A lovely, sunny day actually and terrific photo opportunities for we unconcerned about water seeping through our front doors
The river is due to peak tomorrow morning and it’s touch and go whether it will exceed the record height of 5.4m set in 2000. If it does, the defences built after that flood will be breached and an awful lot more houses will be inundated; so there’s understandably a lot of worried folk about
I was chatting to a couple of infantry from the Environment Agency – all leave cancelled – who said words to the effect that all that could be done to bolster the defences will have been completed this evening and it was now up to Mother Nature
Sympathies to all who’ve been affected by these floods; they have been truly remarkable
Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cumbria, Somerset, The Thames Valley, Gloucestershire etc. in recent years: summat’s up
December 27, 2015 at 18:12 #1227429Really glad to hear you are not affected Drone but my heart goes out to those who are, it must be terrible to have your house / business flooded.
Fingers crossed “mother nature” does her part and plays ball.
January 1, 2016 at 10:20 #1227863Here’s a photo of the flooded Knavesmire beyond the Henry Cecil Gates entrance to the racecourse. Taken last Sunday, the lake got even nearer on Monday and is still there today, though slowly receding

Or as Kirkland Tellwrong would describe it “Good to Firm, Good in Places”
January 1, 2016 at 10:48 #1227872Here’s another. Definitely Good-to-Firm so watering-to-maintain will begin shortly
January 1, 2016 at 19:33 #1227941There must be a fountain of youth too somewhere Drone.
Where is it?
Don’t keep it to yourself.Value Is EverythingJanuary 2, 2016 at 09:56 #1228065I’m one of the last of my kind Gingerboy as Yorkshire’s fountain of youth is no more: Tetley Bitter is now brewed in somewhere called Burton-On-Trent, not Hunslet
Keep it to yourself, but that photo was taken 40 years ago during the long hot summer of ’76. Sweating like a pig I was under the Harrington jacket, tank top, bri-nylon wing-collar shirt and St. Michael vest my mother insisted I wear all year round. I do look damn good for a 19yo though, it must be said
I did think about a full frontal pic but the crushed-velvet crimson loon pants and co-respondent platform shoes would have been a bit of a giveaway
January 2, 2016 at 09:56 #1228066Venetia Williams horses would get through that…..
naughtily I was happy to see a few spits and splashes of rain last night/this morning in hoping the Taunton v Tiverton game this afternoon gets called off and gets re-arranged for a mid week slot. You cant beat a game, a local derby under lights followed by a riot and a night in the cells.Charles Darwin to conquer the World
