I tend to go down the hospitality route when taking Ms Cider to the races these days and part of her enjoyment is getting dolled up in a nice dress. We went to ascot betfair day last year and I got scolded for telling her not to bother with a dress because she then felt underdressed. So most people do still tend to make the effort to look their best at the races.

For the grandstand at Southwell on a cold Tuesday I wouldn’t wear the same clothing I would for a day at Bath in July.

I don’t feel it’s too much to ask that a smart pair of shoes and a collared shirt is worn though. If you’re turning up to a day at Ascot wearing trackies and hoodie with filthy trainers then you’re a heathen!

It has been picked up by the national press. Both The Guardian and the Daily Mail have run stories in the main section, not the sports pages.

“Can we expect at some point to see guys in the height of the summer season rock up wearing a vest, bright bermuda shorts and flip flops? Or women in a bikini with a sarong as cover?”

I regret to inform you that seersucker or chino shorts in easter egg colors are part of the typical men’s uniform at steeplechase meets in the southern US.

Probably be alright as we had all the various fans sporting the Kauto/Denman coloured scarfs back in the day and the supporters/families of Un De Sceaux and Sire De Grugy always came mobbed handed in the respective racing colours.

Tizaaards Cider: I’ve long argued that us women sometimes buy an expensive outfit for a wedding and the only time it will ever get worn again is if we go racing. So I hope that racing continues to be the sort of event where you can never feel overdressed. In fact, even though as people on here will testify to the fact that my usual attire when racing is an old wax and a Newcastle United beanie, I do have a cupboard full of hats from various weddings that I’ve kept thinking they they might get another wear at the races. Mind you, the only time I ever did dress up for a flat meeting was when I went to Newmarket as part of a retirement present from work and I’ve never seen rain like it! I hope it doesn’t go too far the other way though.

    I tend to wear mufty.
I had a meeting with someone I knew quite well recemtly. He kept looking strangely at me.
When I got home I washed my hands and saw in the mirror that was still wearing my false moustache.

Chezza is warned off racecourses , nothing to do with his clothing or dodgy gambling , unfortunately one day when entering a racecourse the security confiscated his packet of hobnobs and threw them in the bin …… The riot squad said they never seen one man put up such a fight

“Is that a packet of hob nobs in your trouser pocket, sir, or are you just pleased to see us?” Security inquired of Chezza upon arrival.

It all went rapidly downhill from there.

Now I’m beginning to wonder if Chezza is gender neutral (whatever that means)?

Actually Hob Knob could be a disease, not just a fetish!

At least you still ventured out to see horses Moe.
I’ve had many a racecard turned to pulp at Newmarket but luckily I’m often able to find an unused card to replace it untouched by human hand, rain or fresh air left sitting on a table close to the bar after the last race. :good:

Wear what you like, and don’t compel others to dress to a standard you find acceptable.

Chezza certainly isn’t biscuit neutral, Purwell!
