511-2 26 Bohemian Lass (WHarney) – …………11,05Should be some more Cheltenham clues on offer here on Sunday week. Casey Jones impressed at Christmas but the ground is likely to be against him here. The horse he beat that day, Trafford Lad, should turn that form around over the shorter trip. Forpadydeplasterer ran well last week but as one of his antepost supporters, I hope he doesn’t run here as I feel another hard race in heavy ground could bottom him out before the festival. It would be great to have Nicanor back but I’d say it’s unlikely that he’d be thrown straight into such a hot race first time out. Tranquil Sea was all the rage before the Drinmore but he ran no sort of race there and it will be a watching brief to see if can show a return to form. I don’t know if Kicks For Free and The Market Man are going to run but I presume Shining Gale will especially if Charlie Mann is sending Wendel over for the Deloitte.
The horse I like is Cooldine who I have backed for the Sun Alliance. He’s a point-to-point winner and he ran up a sequence as a novice hurdler last year before running a very respectable race against the older horses at Punchestown. He’s had two starts over fences so far beating the useful Moskova at Thurles and then finishing third behind Follow The Plan and Tatenen over Christmas. I think he’ll relish the step up in trip and I can see him taking this race en route to Cheltenham.

February 13, 2009 at 07:42 #209962Once you getc past all the big names for cheltenham I reckon that TRAVINO could very well be a bargain bet for the race itself as one who may just have everything right up his street.

8 Tranquil Sea (EJO’Grady) – AndrewJMcNamara(T)…………….. 11,10
9 Travino (MsMMullins) – JLCullen ………. 11,10I’ve backed both Forpadydeplasterer and Cooldine for Cheltenham and to be honest I’m a bit surprised that Tommy Cooper is going to run the former on Sunday. He already expressed his concern during the week about the proximity of this race to Cheltenham and this is a concern that I would share. He had a tough race in the Arkle and this will be a real slog on Sunday and I’d be worried that it might bottom him out before Cheltenham. If he needs another run then surely the Flyingbolt at Navan on Monday over two miles would have been the better option as it doesn’t look half as hot as this race. Cooldine probably needs another run and I’d be confident that he’ll take the beating on Sunday stepping up in trip. Tranquil Sea is on a retrieval mission after bombing in the Drinmore but I’m not sure going left handed is going to suit. Trafford Lad probably didn’t quite see out the trip when going down to Casey Jones and I’d rate him as the main danger to Cooldine. Of the others Rare Bob might represent some each way value on the day.

February 15, 2009 at 00:07 #210255Gutted with that, bet they were really excited too.

In travinos absence I think i’ll opt for Chiraaz at 40-1 and Rare Bob at 14-1.
February 15, 2009 at 20:04 #210385I think that if that were the cream of Ireland’s staying novices then the RSA will be staying this side of the Irish Sea.
When you look forward to next season when the likes of Neptune, Exotic and Kauto will be crossing the water for some of the big conditions races, then the lot that turned up in the Moriarty won’t stand a chance of keeping Ireland’s big pots at home. They are good but they are certainly not exceptional and nowhere near Grade 1 class outside novice company.
February 15, 2009 at 21:18 #210399I haven’t watched the race, but
1) 2m5f is a messy, nothing, distance
2) the first 2 pulled clear
3) Cooldine is now fav for the RSA
4) Forpadydeplasterer is probably being aimed at the Arkle ( . . . if he wasn’t before, he probably is now)
5) They weren’t all there. Okay everyone, lets sing together

It’s Casey at the throttle of the Cannonball ExpressFebruary 15, 2009 at 22:00 #210414A good performance from Cooldine who will surely like the RSA conditions. However why he is favourite is probably due to todays race being a Grade 1 rather than what he has actually beaten. Forpadydeplasterer is a low to mid 140’s horse so the form isn’t anything outstanding. Trafford Las was a bit disappointing.
Cooldine I rate as a danger to my What A Friend for the Sun Alliance but would I dessert the Nicholls horse for Cooldine? No, I wouldn’t.
February 15, 2009 at 22:24 #210421Not sure what to make of today.
Forpady was outclassed in the Drinmore in November and Trafford Lad came into his own. In my opinion, Trafford Lad didnt turn up today – If he did I think we may have seen a much different result.
Forpady will go to the Arkle now full of confidence I wouldve thought. He’s a lively outsider and will take some beating if it comes up Soft/Heavy.
I still like Trafford Lad for the RSA and havent deserted him….yet. We cant forget Gone To Lunch for the RSA though

Cooldine – great performance today to finish top of the tree, will he reproduce that in 3 weeks though? I’d hesitate at backing him after so much was taken out of him with 3 weeks to go
February 16, 2009 at 00:30 #210444I’ve both the front two backed for Cheltenham so I’m quite pleased with the outcome of that race today. Cooldine is as tough as nails and the extra three furlongs at Cheltenham is really going to suit him. I know that Ruby really likes him and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he rode him at Cheltenham over What A Friend. He might have appeared to have had hard race today but he’s a lazy idle type of horse and there was probably more left in the tank.
Forpadydeplasterer for me is going to be suited by the way the Arkle is run. I think he’s a lot more speed than some pundits seem to think and I think he’ll improve again on better ground.
February 16, 2009 at 23:12 #210597I think you’re looking through green tinted spectacles!
February 16, 2009 at 23:21 #210599I do wear tinted spectacles actually. Sort of smoky grey – go dark in sunlight.
February 16, 2009 at 23:31 #210600think you’re looking through green tinted spectacles!
Maybe so, but the likes of Cooldine, Forpadydeplasterer and Trafford Lad were superior over hurdles to the likes of Carruthers, What A Friend and Gone To Lunch. Whether they’ll be capable of stepping up to the mark in open company next year is irrelevant when looking ahead to Cheltenham this year. I personally think that we hold a very strong hand in both novice events and I think Cooldine in particular is going to be very tough to beat.

Connecttions wasted their time and money running Cooldine over 2 miles. It was not as if they were trying to get him well handicapped. Now he’s running over a trip worthy of his stamina, should do better. Particularly at 3m plus. Has a good chance at Cheltenham, don’t know if he is a:
Champion, the wonder horse, championnnn the wonder horrrrrse.
Like a ………..No, don’t thik I’ll bother.
