Pretty well documented that the good Doctor has a huge affinity for Chester, and below are his entries for Weds.
08May13 2:45 Good Morning Star CHESTER (Overnight), StanJames.com Chester Cup (Heritage Handicap)
2008May13 2:45 Address Unknown CHESTER (Overnight), StanJames.com Chester Cup (Heritage Handicap)
1608May13 2:45 Kiama Bay CHESTER (Overnight), StanJames.com Chester Cup (Heritage Handicap)
2508May13 2:45 Very Good Day CHESTER (Overnight), StanJames.com Chester Cup (Heritage Handicap)
2008May13 3:15 Gatepost CHESTER (Overnight), Stellar Group Handicap
11/208May13 4:25 Masamah CHESTER (Overnight), Hill Dickinson Conditions Stakes
9/408May13 4:25 Face The Problem CHESTER (Overnight), Hill Dickinson Conditions Stakes
408May13 5:00 Gabrial The Master CHESTER (Overnight), Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Handicap
9Now i`m sure all of these will be primed to run their respective race, but is there a profit to be made simply backing them blind?
May 8, 2013 at 15:11 #439039Off to a flyer there Softie. Hope you were on!?
Adress Unknown winning the Chester Cup.
The fact he likes runners at Chester means some horses run without conditions to suit. So instead of "backing them blind" – it might be an idea to limit Dr Marwan runners to those actually suited by ground, trip and draw. May be not taking as much notice of last time out form than other owners Softie, as they may have been targeted at Chester.
Value Is EverythingMay 8, 2013 at 19:13 #439069Yes you`re right Ginge, providing you want to put more time and effort into what is a pretty dodgy selection method.
Just the fact that he does like the meeting, but will have horses entered into whatever he chooses, makes it somewhat random. Mind you, he was mob handed for The Chester Cup and it paid off for him.
If i started to eliminate his runners through filtering, bet your life sods law would kick me in the teeth
Goodwood tomorrow for that dodgy looking card or are you giving it a miss?
May 8, 2013 at 22:10 #439080Goodwood tomorrow for that dodgy looking card or are you giving it a miss?
Am in two minds Softie.
It doesn’t look a great card but the Class 3 handicap is interesting and a couple of the maidens. Already backed Frankel’s half brother in the first – on the machine. Someone took the 11/4 I asked for. Will probably save on the Stoute horse.Trouble is the second half of the card looks b….. awful!
Then there’s the weather. If it wasn’t for the forecast I’d probably go. Good ground at the moment, with showers around and high winds. BBC Weather map had showers around Goodwood in the morning, one looks to have just gone over and a rain blob over Trundle Hill at around 4pm tomorrow. So the ground could be on the soft side… But added to that – between 50 and 65mph winds expected along the south coast tomorrow. So if missing the showers the winds could dry the ground out to on the firm side. Plus the effects of wind speed and direction on the horses! Getting cover may hold an advantage and jockeyship may be a bigger factor than usual. Frustrating!
Haven’t quite given up on the idea Softie, but all in all am odds-on to miss it. Might pay to remain at home and react to what happens when it happens.
Enjoy!

4Needs a good final day to finish ahead.
May 11, 2013 at 07:32 #439279A poor day for the Doctor with just one short priced winner in Mount Athos from his 7 runners on Friday , so not profitable this year from the perspective originally laid out.
Final tally:-
Early prices -3.8 pts
BSP -4.76
SP -6.38Mind you, on a personal note, he goes away with the Chester Cup and Ormonde Stakes trophies, so all in all a decent meeting for him.
