A true story in every detail. This must go back to the 50s or 60’s because it features Scobie Breasley. There was once a modest handicapper named OCTOPUS,a creature with 8 legs.On the day in question this nag was running in a mile race (8 furlongs) and looking at the racing paper more closely it was number 8 on the card,8 in the draw (largely irrelevant with starting gates),the jockey’s surname contained 8 letters, and it was 8-1 in the betting. I decided to go with the spirit of the thing and backed it with 8 shillings (40p). Guess what ?
It finished 8th ! Oh happy days !

    Spooky!

I’ll start to take interest in this type of thing when Mr T is booked to ride a horse called "A".

When an old man dies it is like a library burns down.

Coggy ! The point ? What is the point to any story, observation, discussion etc ? I can do verbal battle, intellectual discussion,or anything you like which is not beneath you ! In this stressed out world I thought some people might get a little light relief from
something which amused me all those years ago ! Before anyone else wants to cross swords, indulge in sarcasm etc let me assure you all that my brain is as sharp as it ever was. I thought that this forum was populated in the main by intelligent and nice folk joined together by an interest in horse racing, and as far as I know my purpose in posting was well intentioned and harmless. If it is going to get personal I would rather post on the political forums wher people go to indulge in name calling. What is the point in my post indeed ! What is the point in your response ? Feeling bored, or superior ?
In that case no response necessary…..I enjoy my occasional whimsical moments and do not harm anyone.

Rest assured whimsy has its fans on TRF, sir, and plenty – this thirtysomething-in-twee-old-gimmer’s-clothing included. Do please carry on. :)
