I recorded this and have just watched it. It was a superb programme, but as Jonibake said, not one mention of Tom Queally and no mention of the horses breeding.
June 14, 2015 at 21:52 #1105118Queally declined an invitation to participate in the making of the programme.
There are always things we would do differently ourselves were we making the programme but I thought it was pitched just right bearing in mind the audience was C4, not RUK.
A LOT of controversial things were not touched upon, but maybe it was more of a feel good programme for that.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 15, 2015 at 09:21 #1105363Well worth watching and I suppose they couldn’t include everything but there were some very nice touches such as Frankel likes to bite, the scene with Carson and his ties, the head girl and the sketching of horses especially from his doctor which indicated Cecil had heard more than enough.
Noticeable omissions were the removal of his horses by Sheikh Mohammed in 1995 which played a significant role in his fortunes and how important the continued loyalty of Abdullah was which almost certainly kept his stable going.
I’ll always remember my day ay Newbury for the Lockinge.
June 15, 2015 at 10:24 #1105369My memory to last a lifetime of Frankel was being at Newmarket to see him storm home in the 2000 Guineas.
Managed to get a prime position in the upper levels where you can see the race unfold virtually from start to finish.
I remember the cheers as the race commenced and they never stopped as Frankel took up the lead straight away.
Then came an outburst of cheers and applause as if he had already won the race and he still had 2 furlongs to race.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...June 15, 2015 at 10:54 #1105370Queally declined an invitation to participate in the making of the programme.
What was that all about?
June 15, 2015 at 12:08 #1105379No idea – you’d have to ask him.
Maybe he was worried they would devote an entire segment to how he almost managed to get the best horse ever beaten in the St James’s Palace Stakes? lol

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 15, 2015 at 12:21 #1105384Giving a fairly easy beating to one of the best horses in the last 10 years on CDA’s ground and giving away 3 or 4 lengths at the start. Now that’s quality
June 15, 2015 at 15:32 #1105416My guess would be a combination of
a) Lady Cecil stopped jocking him up fairly soon after he decided to go freelance, even though he was not replaced by a stable jockey, and that probably irked him to say the least given his associated with Sir Henry’s revival and of course Frankel
b) he was approached by the production team at a time close to his drink driving charge/conviction and his mind was in a state, not knowing how his future looked. I think it is fair to say he has/had a drink problem and sometimes people can make rash decisions they later regret when struggling with alcohol problems
It is sad, and whilst I have made no secret of the fact that I don’t hold him in particularly high regard as a jockey, I think there are plenty of interviews knocking about with him regarding Frankel and Sir Henry to show the deep bond he had forged with the great pair.
June 15, 2015 at 17:11 #1105430Ivanjica’s theory is a lot more sensible than my flippancy – I suspect that may well be right.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 15, 2015 at 17:21 #1105432It was a fine programme. The most striking for me were those highly unusual side-on tracking shots of Frankel cruising past hard-ridden top class animals. I was at York for the Juddmonte, but the perspective the filming gave me let me see that race, and Frankel’s achievement, in a new light.
And no matter how often we all see that 2000 Guineas, I’m sure we all still gaze with awe and say ‘Surely not!’
June 15, 2015 at 18:09 #1105585Long time lurker, first time poster. Go easy on me!

Loved the documentary. It was Frankel that got me properly into Horse Racing. I’ve always had a passing interest but watching this magnificent horse destroy his opponents, really drew me to the sport and now I spend a lot of my spare time (what little I have!) reading up on the sport and past great horses.
The Queen Anne performance from Frankel, for me, was perfection
June 15, 2015 at 19:47 #1105601There was no greater admirer of Frankel than me, on of the greatest ever, but that C4 carried the documentary rather than the BBC is a metaphor for how his blazing brilliance didn’t get the attention it merited. He never raced outside England, never contested the Derby or the Arc or the Breeders Cup, races which really pit the best against the best, never became the international superstar he deserved to be. Perhaps Henry’s illness had something to do with this
June 15, 2015 at 21:17 #1105619Overall, I thought the majority of the documentary was fine and touching in parts … though I have to agree with Himself about the lack of key races that made Frankel the superstar that he was.
The footage showing Sir Henry and his brothers (when they were kids) riding their bikes with makeshift whips made me smile.
I also loved the brief rear view footage of Frankel leading the field in the 2000 Guineas by eight or so lengths.
Sir Henry mentioning that “Frankel would’ve been even better at 5 years old” had he stayed in training is quite a mind-blowing thought.
June 15, 2015 at 21:25 #1105621To be fair to Queally, I thought he rode a banging double at Roysl Windsor tonight.
He’s a decent jockey and if he sorts himself out Frankel won’t be his last days of glory.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 15, 2015 at 21:32 #1105622The thing I don’t like about Tom Queally are his flapping arms. That kind of riding style wasn’t made for the apex predator Frankel.

Lovely post!!! Hope you stay and contribute more often.
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
June 17, 2015 at 17:21 #1106101Thanks for the warm welcome Jonibake
