Another imperious display by Richard Hills this evening winning on a horse racing off a mark of….116!
Has anyone ever won a handicap off such an imposte before? Would any other jockey be capable? I think that may be a new world record.
Does anyone have John ‘Ask the Anorak’ Randall’s e-mail?
February 5, 2010 at 18:59 #274206You just gotta love they way they framed that handicap. A 100-
116
. Curiously enough Sheikh Hamdans runner rated officially 116
.Well they couldn’t leave him out could they?

Glenn
Pretty sure there have been a couple of Ascot handicaps won off higher in the past. Names escape me at the moment, but I’m sure someone will know.Cav
I think the ratngs band is appliedafter
the entries are known at Meydan, thus the 100-116 h’cap was merely the weight range of the actual runners today.
February 5, 2010 at 19:13 #274212It was framed 100+ as far as I can see – effectively an open handicap like the Ebor or Wokingham.

A nice present from God for Glenn.

February 5, 2010 at 22:40 #274276Good spot DJ – Curlin was rated 129 when he won that handicap but there was a minimum weight so he only gave a 15 or 16 pounds away.
Yes Snaafy’s race was for 100+ and Poet also ran off 116.
The bands are framed before entries.
Don’t forget that earlier Presvis had been beaten in a handicap off 120.

It must make Snaafy about a 125+ horse then?

Flapping tracks don’t count.
Any advances on 116 with all the field in the handicap proper?

Though neither of them won, Tillerman ran off 119, and Decorated Hero off 121, both in Ascot handicaps.
Proper handicaps mind, with big fields and a 2 stone weight range.
