The admirable Djakadam was second again today; making it 4 seconds in the Punchestowm Gold Cup, + twice second in the Cheltenham Gold cup. Any other similar records come to mind?
April 26, 2018 at 08:39 #1351980Youmzain: 3 times a 2nd in the Arc (which is far more competitive than the Punchestown Gold Cup), twice a runner-up in the Coronation Cup and a KG 2nd and also twice 3rd in that race.
Over the jumps there is one horse that comes a bit into consideration: Deep Sensation.
April 26, 2018 at 08:43 #1351981Theatreworld was 3 times in a row 2nd in the Champion Hurdle.
April 26, 2018 at 09:57 #1351987Superb horse to own, but a big one would be the cherry on top!
Thought at one stage yesterday he was getting it, Bellshill looked to slow slightly, and jump a couple sticky. In the end it wasn’t to be!

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!April 26, 2018 at 10:57 #1351991The formbook says that, at top level, he’s a 20f horse. If he’s flinching toward the end of these long races, you can forgive him on the basis that his first Gold Cup must have put huge strain on him. He was only 6 then. It would have been very interesting to see what would have happened had they delayed a year, although I’d never blame connections for running a young horse when he’s well and in top form.
There’s a price to pay for everything, although in racing it’s usually after the event you get to find out what it is.
April 26, 2018 at 13:01 #1352000Getmeoutofhere was always 2nd at the Cheltenham festival

April 26, 2018 at 15:01 #1352010Alydar not only finished runner up to Affirmed in all three legs of the US Triple Crown, he also finished runner up to him in the Hopeful Stakes, Belmont Futurity & Laurel Futurity.
You could forgive him for being sick of the site of Affirmed as they raced against each other a total of 10 times with Alydar managing to win only 3 times.
April 26, 2018 at 20:24 #1352070Exotic Dancer; always a willing second behind Kato.
April 26, 2018 at 22:50 #1352115Found, second in no less than ten Group One’s.
Granted an Arc and Breeders Cup probably took the pain away.
