Think the second could be quite decent and they both pulled away from the rest so while on the face of it, it was not the performance I was expecting/hopng for, though time may tell that it was a pretty decent run.
He looks more a Derby horse (they both do) and what I liked about it was that he finds more off the bridle and could be more a 3 yr old work in progress rather than having the 2 yr old brilliance of say a City of Troy.
There was an interesting piece in the RP yesterday by David Jennings yesterday regarding Aidan’s top 3 rated two year olds (Johannesberg, Holy Roman Emperor & Air Force Blue). Holy Roman Emperor was immediately sent to stud after his two year old season and the other two were abject failures as 3 yr olds after being lorded in varying degrees as the second coming.
Interestingly, the three lower ranked 2 yr olds in Johannesberg’s year happened to be Rock of Gibraltar, Hawk Wing & Landseer who between them won 8 G1s in their respective 3 year old season.
My point being a lot can change from 2 to 3 and those that are viewed as the best at 2 don’t always turn out to be the best at 3.
September 9, 2023 at 15:23 #1662359“Democracy was only about 8 lengths”
Aidan doesn’t want him beaten too far, as he doesn’t want to have to explain the dramatic improvement when Democracy wins next year’s Guineas.
September 9, 2023 at 16:57 #1662390Think the winner not loving the ground. Probably needs it good/good to soft which he’ll get in the futurity. At least he won’t mess about with the guineas and go trial then Derby I’d think. Second could turn out to be a very good horse so be interesting where he goes next. They did pull well clear so could very much better than the bare form.
September 9, 2023 at 17:13 #1662392He does not appear to be in the Futurity, rather surprisingly. I assume he could be supplemented. He is in the Dewhurst.
September 9, 2023 at 18:04 #1662397Entries for the Futurity haven’t been released yet, CAS. Don’t know if it has closed; I’d imagine that Diego Velazquez will get one.
September 9, 2023 at 18:20 #1662399Thanks Glad, I wondered if that might be the case. He looks tailor made for the race to me.
September 9, 2023 at 21:19 #1662425“So what did you put in your notebook?”
Boat, might be a leger horse
September 9, 2023 at 21:27 #1662428FF91- you could have put “High Definition 2.0” instead.
Coming to a novice hurdle near you in late 2025.
September 9, 2023 at 22:53 #1662436That’s a bit unfair on Diego velazquez
Hms high definition still very much leader of the fleet
Though Diego still has chance to rival him
I’m sure aidan thinks he’s a lovely mover with loads of pace though

I reckon Point Lonsdale will get a go over hurdles this winter. Let’s see what kind of standard he sets.
September 9, 2023 at 22:57 #1662439Cannot put my finger on it but just dont like the look of him , easy to say a horse wont win than will I know , but i dont thing he will win anything of note next year .
Pacemaker in Derby , then gelded off to Lloyd Williams for the Snake Gulley Cup 2025 my gut feeling .September 9, 2023 at 23:08 #1662442“I reckon Point Lonsdale will get a go over hurdles this winter. Let’s see what kind of standard he sets.”
It’ll be that or australia for him I’d imagine
September 11, 2023 at 11:40 #1662640Don’t see it with this one. Could possibly develop into a St Leger sort.
Also, Heffernan only rode Capulet at about 60% in the final half furlong.
September 12, 2023 at 22:30 #1662785Paddy isn’t taking any chances with the Spaniard in the early ante-post betting for the Doncaster Futurity Trophy
Diego Velazquez 9/4
Capulet / Rosallion 6/1
City of Troy 7/1
Arabian Crown 8/1
Unquestionable 10/1
14/1 barPoor value. No particular reason to believe the penny will drop fully in the next six weeks and no gun to the head either.
Assuming he continues to develop as a 3yo see how he copes with the dip in the Craven Stakes in mid-April and all being well send him back on the 4th of May for the 2,000 Guineas ready to rock. One alternative? Coolmore conclude he is something of an equine erratic but some American see potential for him on dirt and puts in an offer they cannot refuse with their embarrassment of riches. Then it’s Adios Diego
September 12, 2023 at 23:12 #1662788AOB has had a number of promising Frankels. Every one has under performed, despite his “genius”. Best thing that could happen to this horse is a move to the US.

September 12, 2023 at 23:22 #1662790“see how he copes with the dip in the Craven Stakes”
There’s more chance of Chezza shagging Angela Rayner than there is of Diego running in the Craven.
