Good on you for coming over JollyP – Royal Ascot is a an amazing experience. I’ll be there too – on the Tuesday of course. Look out for me – I’ll be wearing a suit.

I’m going for my first time on the 23rd of June, can’t wait to see Black Caviar.
However I won’t be in the grandstand or silver ring so does anyone have any tips for me getting a good view?

    I’m going by train :)

The climate adjustment might not be that much- our summers are about the same as Aussie winters at the moment! Like the many named one, I have to try and find something to beat her and came down on the side of Society Rock who got me out of the smelly stuff in this last year- his Royal Ascot record is second to none and he must be value for the place at least- I thought his last run was a good prep for this.

Actually she weighs in at 580 Kg.

    Bloody hell fire!

    Denman

    weighs 555kg,

    Bated Breath

weighs 500kg! She’s a bloody monster jollyp! You sure about that?
If you are coming over for Royal Ascot, make sure you have access to this forum,we’ll do our best to put some winners up to cover your expenses, those races without your Aussie invaders in.Look out for

    The Britannia Handicap

,my record in that is deadly! :D

Thanks APK,will be bringing the laptop! 2 reports about Black Caviar 1 last year that said she weighed almost 600kg and a recent report that she weighed 580kg,i know that is big,but if you think back to some of her runs when she ambles up to the leaders she dwarfs some of them.I would have thought about 520kg but the reports say otherwise.

Thanks Jonibake i am looking forward to it,i love my racing, apparently going by news yesterday that the figure is in the thousands of ex convicts going over! Usually it is a handful,so a lot of Aussies are making it the big trip for the year.Would be nice to get good weather over the carnival, though i dont know if the forecast looks that promising. It has come around quickly,i said i was on a plane in 2 weeks a couple of days ago then realised it is next Saturday when i fly out!

Bumped into an Aussie who’s over for the racing on the Warren Hill gallops yesterday morning. Not surprisingly he was bullish about the mare’s prospects, but he was just as certain that I should keep an eye on another horse ‘Helmet’. He reckoned he was backing it EW and kept telling me that I shouldn’t discount it. :|

Helmut against Black Caviar? He was getting beaten in 3yo races in Australia before he left. He’s a nice horse but seriously we’re talking one of the best sprinters ever to pull on a bridle he would need to improve a fair bit on his peak early 3yo form to beat her. And signs are he’s struggling to even recapture that form so not sure about that.

At his best I’d rate Helmut sImilar but slightly inferior to Starspangledbanner. But like I said it appears he’s lost a bit since he won the caulfield guineas (same 3yo race starspangledbanner won).

Ortensia is a serious horse – very capable of winning the kings stand if she is on her game. Seems to race well when kept fresh and as long as she’s settled in – reports seem to indicate she has – then the 6.6 on Betfair seems a good bet.

Pity More Joyous didn’t go over to race against Frankel that would’ve been fun to watch too.

And SYT flying the flag over the middle distance for us ….. although he’s been over there such a long time now we can barely call him Aussie anymore can we?

Don’t get me wrong, we both agreed that Black Caviar seems to be all but unbeatable. I think he was just making the case for something else should something go wrong for her in running, and I’d imagine looking for some value. And he was very, very bullish about this horse Helmut.

Me I cant see anything getting within sight of her withers.

I’ve got little or no experience of watching her races other than the current footage that is doing the news rounds, but of the races I have seen she hasn’t looked to be off the bridal once. It is sometimes the case that a horse with its chin on its chest finds literally nothing extra if challenged and fully let down by its jockey. Has she ever had to race in her career?

…that’s just an honest question BTW. I’m in no way meaning to sound disrespectful to what is clearly an extraordinary race horse. (Please god let her race at Newmarket!)

Probably 2 races come to mind, the first early on in her career when she stumbled and almost fell at the start, injured herself (and was spelled for 6 mths), but still won by a length.

The second was this years Lightning stakes when she dropped back from 7f to 5f within a week. You should do yourself a favor and YouTube it. Hay List, who during any other era would be the best sprinter in the world really made her work (well maybe for about 50m), but she still coasted to the line…the extraordinary thing…they ran 55.4 for the 1000m and she reeled of a 9.9sec split for the furlong between the 600m and the 400m!

What makes Black Caviar an incredible racehorse though, and what elevates her into a group of horses that make up the best to have ever raced in this country, was her ability to break Hay List at the 200m and then actually quicken off that sizzling tempo.

Yes Hammy,as a 3yo BC knuckled over at the start and pulled a muscle in her chest in the Danehill Stks, she got up to win by a neck i think, the horse she beat’Wanted’ won a Newmarket beating StarspangledBanner(i mistakenly said previouly Oakleigh Plate). Also she got on the wrong leg in Sydney and Hay List Skipped maybe 4 lengths clear of her,she ended up winning easily, and the third time was when she came back from 1400m to 1000m within a week and mowed down Hay List to win the Lightning Stakes. As you can see she had something against her every time but showed what a mind boggling talent she is.

Fun ? It would have been downright hilarious. No, Singlteton made the right decision by keeping the mare well out of Frankel’s reach. It would have been soul destroying for her… and him !

More Joyous has won 19 from 26, her last 3 starts have been Group 1 wins, she carried 57.5 kg on a 52kg limit, she has won i think 8 or 9 Group 1’s the only mare in history trained here to win more is Black Caviar. The Doncaster Hcp was worth $2 million. No ‘Singo’ is an old school hard nut, wouldnt be much that would be soul destroying to him, though he may have destroyed a few in him time. She might not have beaten Frankel but if she was at her best she would have run a very big race. His is a business decision as he is setting her for the Cox Plate here in October,as it is worth $3 million,so a trip over there and to come up again in October is not an ideal prep for the race.
