I always like to have a crack at this one. I’ve picked 3 at varying odds. I think the ground is on the good side, maybe a little give. Little flutters of rain about but nothing heavy or prolonged.
5 places with Sky.Straight – The worthy favourite, having smashed the oppo over 11f in a trial, it looks a simple case of if he stays he wins but ya know, 3 year olds. 5/2 was pretty generous though put into context.
If Not Now – 7/1, Mr. Beckett sends him over after a runaway success in a 10f handicap. Not much to gather from that form but he was a staying on 3rd behind Royal Ascot victor ‘Gregory’ on his seasonal debut, I wouldn’t regard that as proper form but he’s interesting nonetheless.
Wales – 16/1, second string from the Wohler yard (Straight) but has a 12f victory under his belt. The jockey actually rode the favourite in that trial victory so may count himself slightly unfortunate not to keep the ride. Or he might be on the one to shock ze German Bevolkerung.
Get busy living or get busy betting.
July 1, 2023 at 21:11 #1654076Funnily enough, I was just looking at this.
My rather dull conclusion was that Straight, so impressive over 1m3f on a similar surface at Cologne and lightly raced and progressive, had a favourite’s chance.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"July 1, 2023 at 22:31 #1654095I have actually completely changed my mind having had a 2nd look. Fantastic Moon beat the favourite over 10f on his last run, very tidily as well.
I was initially dismissive because he was well behind another market rival ‘Mr. Hollywood’ on seasonal debut. Mr Hollywood was well beaten by Straight in that 11f trial. The key is the ground. Mr Hollywood has scooted up 3 times on ground described as Heavy including when in front of Fantastic Moon. I’m happy to give FM a pass on that as he clearly travelled much better on good going.
Ignore everything I put on the opening post, I’m all in on Fantastic Moon @ 4/1.
July 1, 2023 at 22:51 #1654099I thought the overall race times of Straight’s last two races were interesting, given one was 1m2f, the other was 1m3f and tomorrow’s contest is 1m4f.
